Thrilled to share a new preprint! πŸ“ πŸŽ‰ Lewis lab PhD student Casadora wondered: Do mtDNA synthesis and lipid droplet biogenesis co-occur at the same membrane contact sites? Or can we discern distinct ER-mito contact classes? Evidence suggests the latter, relevant in overnutrition!

Great work by Mugagga, Lainy and Jess from the Simcox Lab! SCD1 is known to regulate the production of monounsaturated fatty acids and development of diabetes in response of high carbohydrate diet. We showed loss of SCD1 also controls acylcarnitine levels.

Molecular machineries shaping the mitochondrial inner membrane Nature Reviews Molecular Cell Biology, Published online: 14 May 2025; doi:10.1038/s41580-025-00854-zThe inner mitochondrial membrane forms cristae, which are crucial for mitochondrial function. This Review explores the protein complexes that regulate cristae dynamics, including remodelling and fusion, and discusses recent structural insights that have increased our understanding of mitochondrial architecture.
