At my *suburban* MN precinct caucus tonight a resolution calling to ABOLISH ICE also got a unified resounding ”AYE” And an organizer told me that turnout was 4x higher than they anticipated.

The meeting is adjourned. Mayor Kevin Sartor ended the long meeting by saying “We hear you, we have a lot to consider and your voices are impactful and powerful.” Surprise showed tf up. The overflow room filled + hundreds outside. It ended with only 2 speakers in favor of the ICE camp.

City of Surprise Government ... 3d A STATEMENT FROM THE CITY OF SURPRISE The City of Surprise is aware that a commercial building within our city was recently purchased by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). We understand there are questions about the potential presence of DHS in Surprise, as well as the potential of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations. The City was not aware that there were efforts underway to purchase the building, was not notified of the transaction by any of the parties involved and has not been contacted by DHS or any federal agency about the intended use of the building. It's important to note, Federal projects are not subject to local regulations, such as zoning.

When it comes to immigration enforcement, local law enforcement does not enforce federal immigration laws; Surprise Police Department enforces local and state laws. While we do not participate in ICE operations, we also cannot interrupt or prevent their operations. When responding to any call for service, you can expect the Surprise Police Department to carry out its mission to serve our community ethically and with unwavering commitment by upholding the highest standards while enforcing the law fairly and impartially.

Tonight will be the first Surprise City Council meeting since the Jan. 23rd sale. According to the City, federal projects are not subject to local zoning regulations. They also claim they were unaware of the purchase.

It’s hard to put into perspective how truly massive the warehouse is that was recently sold by the Rockefeller Group to the Department of Homeland Security for $70 million to build a concentration camp in Surprise, AZ. Across the street is a huge neighborhood and a school. It’s 400,000-square-feet.

Help Rodney Taylor, a Disabled Double Amputee Being Held by ICE Rodney has been in the country more than 40 years. He's in solitary confinement in Georgia, being denied disability accommodations and having his medical needs ignored. He must be released.

Please speak up for Rodney. A year in an ICE camp is beyond comprehension.

Public pressure works.

If enough people speak up, a life may be saved.

Many of the deaths in ICE custody have been due to medical neglect… let’s make sure Rodney isn’t one of them.

The next witness, U.S. citizen and CA resident Martin Rascon, chokes up as he recounts an experience from August when four men in face masks, sunglasses, & baseball caps tried to force into his car, guns pointed at him and his family, ignoring requests to ID themselves before shooting multiple times

Rahman: "We call ourselves a civilized nation, but we lack rules and accountability around what a person claiming to be law enforcement is permitted to do to another human being."

She ends with this: "I am not afraid. And I am not afraid to keep working on this problem, even after ICE is gone."

The next witness is Aliya Rahman, a U.S. citizen and resident of Minneapolis with autism and a traumatic brain injury, who in January was dragged from her car by immigration agents— four blocks away from where George Floyd was killed—then detained without access to medical care or lawyer.

Martinez ends her testimony with this:

"If there's not justice for the people, let there be no peace for the government."

Martinez: "[I] sat in federal court and watched from 20 feet away as the border patrol agent who attempted to kill me testified at a hearing. Agent Charles Exum—Charles Exum, my attempted executioner was Charles Exum—I hope the government does not consider my use of his name here to be...doxxing."

Martinez is recounting her harrowing experience: after being shot by CBP agents, she drove a mile to the safety of an auto shop where she called 911, got treatment at a hospital for 7 bullet wounds, then was immediately taken into custody by federal agents.

Next witness to testify is Marimar Martinez, a U.S. citizen and Chicago resident who was shot five times by CBP agents in October and was later charged with assaulting the agents who shot her. The U.S. Attorney's Office dropped those charges six weeks later.
