US ambassador makes history in Judea and Samaria visit Shift US policy on display as Ambassador Mike Huckabee visits Shiloh, where the Tabernacle stood for hundreds of years after the Israelites entered the Land

Evangelical Christian Zionism and Jewish Zionism overlap in US policy on Israel, and the US ambassador met cows:

β€œHuckabee began his tour by meeting with five red heifers being raised at the site, in accordance with the biblical commandment and in preparation for the future building of the Temple.”

email to me:

Our disabled son has CP and bladder spasms so urologist is recommending Botox treatments and we read your article and are concerned about the presence of mRNA in the Botox.

Is mRNA in all brands?
How can we know if it is in there?
Is there a safe brand you recommend?

He has to have this so what do we do?

Thanks

my reply:

personally, i'd recommend you follow the advice of your doctor. but what do i know, i'm just a random person you emailed. I have no more formal education around botox than the author Naomi Wolf, whose advice I assume you were actually seeking. but since you emailed me, my suggestion is that you listen to your kid's urologist, who is a trained medical professional, rather than seeking out medical advice from someone with an english degree and a history of making significant errors in her research.

best of luck!

a specific skill I've developed over the past ~20 years is crafting responses to emails sent to me, but intended for that other Naomi Wolf

Connecticut is additionally a very difficult state to make the ballot as a primary challenger and he's nevertheless got two public officials taking him on with a third looking at it? fascinating

I want to know how bad he is behind the scenes that John Larson was somehow one of the first House Dems to draw an explicitly ageist challenge from someone with actual stature

like post-progressive morality etc. was supposed to be about harassing their secretaries and saying racist things to the black intern again but now the nihilistic warlord emperor is looting the state and telling them to provide offerings or else

i'll be honest literally the only upside of spending so much time trawling twitter for DSA convention updates was more cocaine banana starbucks organizer lady tweets (and I don't even follow her lol)

I mean, my state assembly speaker created a law firm with the more or less explicit purpose of trading on his influence to get oversized public contracts, the crimes aspect of Trump is thoroughly pedestrian in American politics

also why a lot of establishment Dems are so short-circuited by himβ€”they oppose the degree to which he's using the state to enforce his political preferences and enrich his allies but the act itself is not foreign to them

he's not the right fit for this moment imo but that does not mean he's untalented. if you need a message to reach cable-addicted old people you better tag him in.

yeah if America had been cool with gay people in 04 and Pete was also 15-20 years older but with the same kind of bio I think he would've smoked Bush tbh

I feel like the solution is not jail, but some kind of SSI-style stringent asset cap to make them poor for the duration of their sentence. I don’t want these people buying a pardon and going back to their lives.

if we are to make it out of this, ideally, the Democratic Party will adopt a policy of nuking your career from orbit if you are a Democrat with credible allegations of corruption. needless to say we have a lot of work to do here

there was never much rule of law in the consumer debt courts and I can't wait for it to get fucking worse somehow.

11.08.2025 01:48 β€” πŸ‘ 43    πŸ” 2    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

underdiscussed area of rule-of-law breakdown is consumer debt, especially in state court. judges will approve flatly illegal collection methods and force a client to either eat the illegal loss or fucking appeal, neither of which is a good option for someone poor enough to be a debt defendant.

When the β€œwhat would the Dem Stephen Miller equivalent be” thing was going around a week ago, my answer was β€œreorient the executive for a massive crackdown on consumer fraud, financial crimes, political ethics violations, and other white collar crime.”

Crazy hiring spree at IRS and DOJ Public Integrity and Fraud sections, with pay comparable to BigLaw. Make the case, every day, that the role of government is to protect regular people from the abuses of the rich and powerful. Collect heads. Make examples.

Kennedy catches a lot of the heat for the politicized state of public health and science today.

But like, Bhattacharya is right fuck there, man….

Dude is a right-wing political operative spreading bullshit and masquerading as a serious scientist.

(low-key think this is also what the 2022 layoffs and the gigantic fight over WFH mandates were about to: it's putting employees back in their place, even at loss of value, because a lot of people were alarmed at the sense of losing control over staff that their money "entitled" them to)

10.08.2025 16:36 β€” πŸ‘ 1104    πŸ” 195    πŸ’¬ 17    πŸ“Œ 31

Also why studies repeatedly show more diverse companies are more successful, but the market hasn't optimized to eliminate misogyny and racism in the workplace. It's that companies /value/ the bigotry that gives them a misplaced sense of control more than the dollar value of increased effectiveness

10.08.2025 16:39 β€” πŸ‘ 754    πŸ” 105    πŸ’¬ 12    πŸ“Œ 3

If you want to abstract it, it's that past a certain point, money is about control not about purchase power, and Trump might reduce their spending power but increase their (local) sense of control

About 1.5 years ago, I signed a letter by CUNY journalism school faculty that basically just said killing journalists is bad, because even then the number killed in Gaza was setting records. Somehow this was…wildly controversial at the time.

RASHIDA TLAIB can better afford to piss off Arab and Muslim voters than Nellie Pou can because her median voter is a Black Detroiter! Nellie's median voter is genuinely a Paterson or Clifton Arab or Turk.

11.08.2025 02:38 β€” πŸ‘ 50    πŸ” 4    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Pou more than any other Democrat in the entire fucking country relies on Arab and Muslim swing voters, she represents a heavily Muslim Trump district for Christ's sake.

11.08.2025 02:29 β€” πŸ‘ 55    πŸ” 4    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Nellie Pou going on an AIPAC codel is one of the more breathtakingly stupid things I've seen a Democrat do recently. you represent Little fucking Ramallah!

Every moderate Democrat in a Trump district seems to have the exact same script on How to Be Moderate (which is why you can count on who the crossover votes will be on a lot of terrible GOP bills) without thinking about the specific reasons their districts went to Trump. It's stupid!
