I was trying to rescue this photo from shade and terrible lighting but things went very wrong. However I love the way this chickadee is looking down at me so I'm going with it

Ironically the warming planet is causing more survival migrations of people. It's all just mind boggingly cruel.
14.02.2026 16:13 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0If we don't fight climate change, nothing else will matter. Keep hope but also keep working and keep fighting for the environment. We all depend on it. Literally.

Beautiful! How many coniferous species are there in Canada? And how different are the species on the West Coast from the East? Thanks!

We don't have to choose between the economy and the planet.
The UN reports that nature-based solutions (restoring forests, sustainable agriculture) can provide 37% of the climate mitigation needed by 2030.
Investing in green jobs isn't charity,itβs the most intelligent long-term investment.
One Great Tit (as in a small passerine) perches on a small branch by a suet feeder, while another Great Tit (also as in a smaller passerine) waits their turn in the background. (Oddly, although the author has numerous pictures of Great Tits, they are almost all display only Great Tit at a time.)
No Valentine's Day date? Here's an alternative activity for your weekend: the Great Backyard #Bird Count!
Who knows, you might get to see a pair of great tits bouncing around right outside your house [*] π¦

A major glyphosate safety paper from 2000 has been retracted for ethical concerns and undisclosed industry involvement.
The science is being corrected.
The ecosystems and bodies exposed for 25 years are not.
Retractions repair journals.
They donβt repair time.
Most welcome! Thanks for your interest!
13.02.2026 19:42 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Oh I do see a picture window now. That needs marking. I seriously fear that projects like this often lead to a glass fencing around a patio. Extreme strike hazard.
13.02.2026 19:30 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Of course! There's a lack of windows so my comment was a bit tongue in cheek.
That said...reducing glass IS an amazing mitigation
The boom in glass-rich frontages is extremely hazardous. We are fighting an uphill battle to prevent collisions.

Image by Lindsey Wallis of the Alberta Wilderness Association - bat walk in the Weaselhead in Calgary, Alberta - shows people on a bridge with bat detectors listening for bats overlooking a pond area with a pretty sunset and trees in the background. Remarkable as this is right in the city of Calgary. Above the crowd is an embedded image of a flying bat by Brock&Sherri Fenton with "echolocation" lines emanating from the front of the bat to show that the bat is echolocating! Text reads "Nature is not a place to visit, it is home." by Gary Snyder. Logo WCS Canada Alberta Community Bat Program albertabats.ca
Start seeing your property as habitat. What are you doing to support native ecology? Plant native trees and plants to help local wildlife - even in the city. Skip pesticides. Replace some lawn with native plants (and lower your water bill!). Turn off outdoor lights in summer. Small steps matter. π¦π‘πΏ
