This is defeatist and not true. The root of this is the evil in the GOP. The Dems fumble and screw up all the time and many need to be primaried. But this isn’t a Dem created insurance increase.

I’ll say this though, I’m a moderate. I really struggle with some stuff on the left flank. I’m not all in on Mamdani’s policies. But I’ll tell you what - what the Dems did here fires me up more than anything to vote for almost any primary challenger that has any semblance of the Mamdani vibe.

Thanks for the explanation. I value an honest assessment. I feel strongly at this point, academics and intellectuals need to treat this like a parent does in certain situations. Encouraging forward progress is all that matters. At least that’s my perspective. I can see why you’d feel otherwise.

The doomer view spreads and sucks the breath out of what needs to be done these next three years. It’s so much more complex than he’s behaving X way. We get it. The positive push is needed far more than “even if he’s amazingly unpopular, it’s all lost!”

Honestly. Knock it off. This doomer shit is how they win. There is so much more analysis here. We aren’t a former Soviet republic used to brutal dictatorships. We aren’t an emerging nation freeing ourselves of an authoritarian ruler. We are a flawed democracy and we have to dig in.
