I would argue that the blues is NOT as easy as it seems.

Yes, on paper, the blues is simple. But I would argue that being able to master the blues form, and be able to actually PLAY the blues correctly, is an art form that is anything BUT easy.

If you think of jazz as not only a genre of music with distinct characteristics, but also as an attitude, then jazz never really died, it's influence is still present in the popular music of today. I'd argue that hip hop/rap is a logical continuation of jazz.
