Huge deal in LA. Council member Raman will challenge Mayor Bass. She’s a DSA member who’s been focused on housing policy. She also happens to have an urban planning degree.

Can’t speak for everywhere but in both SF and LA some of the areas doing the worst were basically all chains already and THEY left.

Areas that relied on both tourism and larger, more common mall chains seem to be faring the worst (true in SF too) but that’s definitely not the whole story

I don’t have a great theory as to why this is but it does vary a ton by neighborhood: it’s not just the new hip areas that are doing well, studio city is too? But Santa Monica, Melrose, sunset strip all struggle

The thing is, we knew all of this 10 years ago. It was basically right in the Access Hollywood tape, with Trump bragging about assaulting women. And it didn't end then because people like Mike Pence and the rest of the Republican party closed ranks and stood by him, which they are still doing.
