Age really is just a number and a matter of perspective.

We're always looking at animals carrying things around in their mouths and going, "Aw, so cute!" Do you suppose animals ever look at us and think the same thing?

The best part of it was when I held a bear and made it wave at one of our old timers. He has a friendly smile he always gives me and others, but I watched that smile melt into something softer, younger, full of memories of a youth long gone. And then he waved back at the bear.

If you bring a bag of stuffed animals to a men's homeless shelter, you will see a bunch of macho, no-nonsense men instantly become children. It's moments like this that makes me love my job. To see them drop their guards and become playful, laughing, slightly naughty little boys is just amazing.

I just helped a client who I discovered has short term memory loss. Before I even knew this, just as he walked in, my playlist queues up a Chumbawumba song. Yes, THAT one...
