What makes my heart sing? Cats. Wild places, birds, butterflies, bees, wild flowers... long walks in the woods and by the sea... the moon and the stars… Archaeology, art, folklore, crafts. Peace. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦ 🌻

Where the veil between seasons and legends is thin. Wayland's Smithy is cradled by a blazing ring of fall foliage. The very definition of a timeless landscape. 🍁 #History #Mythology

With the turning back of the clocks, a Rook parliamentary sub-committee declared an hour of acorn-bashing at the Old Oak.
Some of of the work was subcontracted to Jackdaws.
Many acorns are bashed on the spot, while others are taken away for caching in some far flung field.

😯 ✨Betjeman described it as 'Holy Air Encased in Stone'.

If you've never visited St. Wystan's in Repton before - deep below the surface - that first glimpse of the C9th Saxon crypt is quite something.

#JoinMeOnMyWalk The sun returned to #Lancashire today, hooray! So good to see and feel it's warmth, and it even brought a couple of #butterflies out to play. Lovely skies and even a rainbow first thing today, lovely lunch walk. @photohour.bsky.social #vitaminN #Autumn2025

🍏Adoration for the twisty little garden apple tree this #appleday - local lore tells of an inhabiting spirit that protects the tree & ripens the fruit, folk called 'Uld Dovne' hereabouts which means sleepily lazy, but this glorious tree yields beauty, blossom, fruit, dyestuff...

1/6 The Year of the Chiffchaff - escape from this gloomy rainy day to the promise of spring.
The Chiffchaff builds its nest with an outer shell of grass, with leaves at it's base.
It's a wonderful dome-shaped structure which is extremely well hidden, often by the side of a path.
Caution strimmers!

Fox jumping into autumn leaves

Fox jumping into autumn leaves

In crimson, orange and bronze, autumn had arrived.
Fox had spent a rather enjoyable morning searching for the perfect collection of leaves.
She'd finally found it.
With a joyful soul and playful heart, she jumped.
In one fine leap, she pounced to catch her shadow.
