A middle schooler learning civics for the first time would know that’s the exact opposite of what separation of powers entails.

Yesterday was tough.

It marked the one year anniversary of argument before SCOTUS on Trump's ballot eligibility. Our argument was strong and we were prepared, but the justices just had no stomach for it.

Let's hope they show more backbone as cases against his administration's overreach proceed.

A memo listing all of the clubs eliminated by USMA.

The United States Military Academy has just eliminated all Cadet clubs and activities for POC. Most of these have existed for decades like the Society of Black Engineers. They were there when I was a Cadet in 1987. All of the religious ones remain. This isn’t DEI. It’s white Christian Nationalism.

The Price America Will Pay for Trump’s Tariffs Alienating allies and partners that the U.S. desperately needs means that β€œAmerica First” will be β€œAmerica Alone.”

"Trump is single-handedly reneging on 80 years of American work to persuade others to trust and rely on the United States. He is remodeling the international image of the U.S. after himself: impulsive, self-seeking, short-sighted, and untrustworthy."

The US constitution was built to avoid centralized power and tyranny.

It is not the constitution that is failing us.

It is the partisans who have promised to uphold the constitution that are failing us.

The assault on NIH is a test for how the national media covers the Trump admin: Trump is shutting down medical research!

That is easy to communicate. Will they treat it as a 5 alarm fire in a way that forces the government to respond, or will they downplay & caveat it?

Journalism moving forward will be either 1- both-sidism, accepting this daily anti-American clownshow is normal, or 2- tell the truth and side with the Constitution and democracy’s defenders. In our day and age, it truly and regrettably is that simple.

The magic of political punditry. Say anything to fill the airwaves. This is dead wrong and not up to the caliber Jake Tapper should hold as journalism’s standard.

One thing that can be taken away from these hearings is that all nominees have been nervous to answer any question about Donald Trump's limits while in office. This is not accidental. This is the direct result of why these nominees are here in the first place. Trump wants yes men.

I made a little picture to help explain to the MAGAts why Pete Hegseth's utter ignorance about ASEAN actually matters, especially for a guy who says he wants to roll back Chinese influence.

The media is terribly responsible, since 2015, for giving the stupidest of ideas an audience. It’s literally the oxygen that propelled the fire that is consuming the country. It’s well past time we treat stupidity how it should be treated: ignore it. It’s destroying the US and the Western world.

Last week, William Webster, the only person to have served as both the Director of the FBI and of the CIA, wrote a letter to all Senators urging them not to confirm Kash Patel or Tulsi Gabbard to the FBI and DNI, respectively. Here is his statement on Pres. Carter's passing:

Harris barely lost despite all the challenges and her own campaign mistakes. Trump has never gotten 50%. A divided man leads a divided and self-destructive country. Also, PA workers, sadly, are going to go through some things under Trump and his policies.

I first learned about US politics and macroeconomics at school in France. Paul Krugman’s columns were nothing short of a compass, and have been for many years, now that I moved to the US and became an American. The world is grateful for all the lessons, Professor. Thank you!

And where reputable journalists and thinkers go, so do elected officials.

I’ve been getting asked lately about a more serious + systemic migration to Bluesky among electeds.

Idk the answer but it highlights how much of a breaking point misinfo & throttling has become for Twitter(& other platforms)

If you want to understand the rise of RFK and other crackpot anti-science types in the 21st century, you have to understand the fusion between conspiracy theorists and New Age flummery, as I wrote in the new edition of The Death of Expertise:
