German soccer team cancels Minnesota visit due to ICE crackdown Bundesliga side Werder Bremen were planning to visit in May, though no matches were scheduled.

This is what needs to happen.

Cancel the World Cup.

Cancel the Olympics.

Cancel your US vacations.

Refuse to support this regime and refuse to endanger lives.

We must stop pretending that Brexit was just a domestic choice.

It was a successful Russian hybrid operation designed to shatter Western cooperation.

This betrayal has left both the UK and the EU more vulnerable to aggression.

Those who still defend it are idiots or traitors

β€˜Don’t go to the US – not with Trump in charge’: the UK tourist with a valid visa detained by ICE for six weeks Karen Newton was in America on the trip of a lifetime when she was shackled, transported and held for weeks on end. This sort of thing is why people are understandably not coming to the US. I would be really surprised if the expected international crowds arrive for the World Cup, at least at the US venues. Maybe some diehard fans will come. But the risk is just too great.

Feed algorithms are widely suspected to influence political attitudes. However, previous evidence from switching off the algorithm on Meta platforms found no political effects'. Here we present results from a 2023 field experiment on Elon Musk's platform X shedding light on this puzzle. We assigned active US-based users randomly to either an algorithmic or a chronological feed for 7 weeks, measuring political attitudes and online behaviour. Switching from a chronological to an algorithmic feed increased engagement and shifted political opinion towards more conservative positions, particularly regarding policy priorities, perceptions of criminal investigations into Donald Trump and views on the war in Ukraine. In contrast, switching from the algorithmic to the chronological feed had no comparable effects.
Neither switching the algorithm on nor switching it off significantly affected affective polarization or self-reported partisanship. To investigate the mechanism, we analysed users' feed content and behaviour. We found that the algorithm promotes conservative content and demotes posts by traditional media. Exposure to algorithmic content leads users to follow conservative political activist accounts, which they continue to follow even after switching off the algorithm, helping explain the asymmetry in effects. These results suggest that initial exposure to X's algorithm has persistent effects on users' current political attitudes and account-following behaviour, even in the absence of a detectable effect on partisanship.

A new paper shows that less than 2 months of exposure to Twitter’s algorithmic feed significantly shifts people’s political views to the right.

Moving from chronological feed to the algorithmic feed also increases engagement.

This is one of the most concerning papers I’ve read in awhile.

BannikΙ”ng social media for under 16s. Not sure. I can see massive benefits but feels a bit of a draconian measure. As much of an argument for banning over 50s/55s. We are seeing the online radicalisation of a whole generation and it goes unmentioned.

East Germany was rather gpod at the Olympics. Sport is a really bad example as an indicator of a country's strength. To an extent GB 'financially dopes' medals as DDR did with drugs. Lottery. Funding of medal sports to detriment of others. Often with class implications. Rowing vs Basketball etc..

A vote for Matt Goodwin is a vote for the politics and money of the far-right in the US and Europe.

Vox in Spain, Bannon in the US, Orban in Hungary. Goodwin admires them all.
