We need more opportunities for people willing to work, & fewer barriers to good-paying jobs. I introduced a bill to create a state-level Work Opportunity Tax Credit that will help create more jobs, strengthen social services, & empower more people facing employment barriers in our community.

I'm proud to secure an increase of $9,093,274* for our local schools in the new budget.’ Two columns of text titled ‘School District.’ and ‘New Dollars for Our Kids.’ They list ‘Farmington Public Schools $3,925,080 Oak Park Schools $2,274,005 Southfield Public School District $1,966,419 Clarenceville School District $927,770.’ Text at the bottom reads ‘State Representative Jason Hoskins 18th House District *Preliminary estimates. Figures represent increases over last year's budget, not total state aid.’
We passed a budget that invests in our local schools. As Dems, we wear our values on our sleeves; from increased funding for school meals to mental health and safety resources and services kids need to thrive, we delivered a budget that invests in the future of our state.

Today is #IndigenousPeoplesDay. Today and every day, we honor the living, thriving Indigenous nations and communities whose strength and resilience continue to shape this country.

My commitment is clear: I'll keep working to ensure future budgets advance economic opportunity, expand education and make Michigan fair and worth calling home.”
Last week, the Michigan Legislature passed the state budget. Even as Michigan faces significant federal cuts, this budget delivers for schools, for hospitals and patients, and for public safety. No budget is perfect, but this one reflects the compromise needed to keep Michigan moving forward.

But House Democrats will never back down when it comes to protecting students, providing healthcare, and safeguarding our streets.”
Last night, I voted to protect and preserve Medicaid here in Michigan because every Michigander deserves access to the care they need. There’s still more work ahead to secure the investments our communities rely on, and I’m committed to seeing it through.

23.09.2025 14:31 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0This legislation is about fairness. The relationship between tenants and landlords should be balanced, with both sides knowing their rights and responsibilities. However, that is often not the case. By giving tenants the information and tools they need, we can empower more renters.
18.09.2025 20:57 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0The more tenants know, the less they can be exploited & the more confident they are in advocating for themselves: whether that means requesting needed repairs, ensuring their home is safe & habitable or understanding the eviction process. Renters deserve to know their rights. Period. That's why House Dems have introduced a 17-bill package to empower renters to be more informed. My bill in the package will ensure that tenants receive a copy of their rights because when you're informed, you're protected.

01.09.2025 23:06 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Hoskins Rejects GOP Budget, Calls for Responsible Plan to Protect Families SOUTHFIELD, Mich., Aug. 29, 2025 — Earlier this week, House Republicans advanced House Bill 4706, an omnibus budget that makes deep reductions to housing, economic development, and other core services that communities rely on. Standing against these cuts, state Rep. Jason Hoskins (D-Southfield) issued the following statement: “House Republicans’ budget makes sweeping reductions across critical areas of state government. I oppose it because it devastates the very services that Michigan families and communities depend on. “The plan reduces support for health care, nutrition assistance, and maternal and infant health programs, leaving vulnerable residents without the care they need. It cuts funding for public safety, including state police positions, and undermines programs that protect neighborhoods. It also scales back investments in housing, workforce development, and economic growth. These are the very foundations of a strong and fair society, and our duty is to strengthen them, not tear them down. “These choices also raise serious concerns for civil rights. When funding for food, health care, housing, and public safety is withdrawn, the burden falls heaviest on those already facing barriers — seniors, children, low-income families, and communities of color. Equal access to safety, health, and opportunity is a matter of basic rights, and this budget moves Michigan in the wrong direction. “I believe our state budget should strengthen the foundations of health, safety, and economic security. I will continue working toward a responsible plan that protects these essential services and gives Michigan families the support they deserve.”
The House Republican budget cuts health care, nutrition assistance & public safety. When people in our neighborhoods aren't taken care of, they can't thrive & neither can our communities. I will continue to advocate for a strong budget that supports MI.
