The Princess's name and fame will help that report reach a much wider audience. She's not a co-PI, by any stretch, but royals support causes. As editor, I would have done this differently, but the Higgs paper had everyone at CERN, including janitors, in its author list, and no one died.

Darned if these politicians think Western classical civilizations are "safe" and unthreatening to entrenched power. Quite the opposite! Our waning hegemony is prefigured by theirs.

Someone had to pay for Qatar's cooperation in the end-stage of the Gaza war, not to mention shrugging off an Israeli attack on Doha, and that seems to be us.

I believe Apple is looking to monetize people's health data in an end run around HIPAA. Providing health care is secondary. The same may be true of Amazon Health.

When I was in high school, my friend worked at a NYC store called Maxilla & Mandible which sold real bones, including human bones. The skeletons were sourced from China and India. Then the law caught up, there were bans on importing human remains, and the store had to focus on other vertebrates.

Greg, he's been a DINO practically his entire career. His staffers' Trump parodies are brilliant, but (like so many other politicians), all he really wants is power, and will say what is expedient. He probably thinks trans-betrayal will get him votes on the national level.

This is of niche industry interest, but here goes:

The digital catalog platform most independent bookstores use to peruse and order new books for their stores (called Edelweiss) has jacked up their prices on publishers to catalog new titles 200-300%.

Why does this matter?

Never Trust AI. I was trying to create a Discogs tracklist for a recording of Bach's Well-Tempered Clavier. It's picky work, and I thought it might be easier to tell Claude how to do it. He was subtly and completely wrong. He left out all the tracks in minor keys! Facepalm.

Both Trump administrations have refused to accept ABA endorsements for judicial appointments and confirmations. Why would they suddenly fear and/or comply with anything a state bar association says? I'd love to see this happen, of course!

David is trying to manipulateΒ God into being in on his side, using every kind of persuasion -- flattery, desperation, guilt, and even threats of suicide. ("Had I not the assurance
that I would enjoy the goodness of the LORD
in the land of the living…:) He concludes with "Trust in the Lord...."

For example, in Psalm 27, David encourages us to "trust in the Lord," but it may be "fake it 'til you make it." In the beginning, he asks, "The LORD is my light and my help;
whom should I fear?" But he goes on to tell us what he does fear -- "flesh-eaters," intriguers, propagandists, enemies...

Whom does the Psalmist have in mind as "me?" David (a Jew)? An ICE "fighter?" The Department of Homeland Security? Why, in so many Psalms, does David waver in his sense of his own righteousness, even though he says the right things? Some salutary reflection by our modern appropriators would help.

Why elite colleges aren't pushing back on Trump, and why silence is dangerous Their caution, one expert notes, is "potentially fatal for the university as we know it."

Administrators of the @uofcalifornia.bsky.social can let the Trump administration pick off campuses one by one.

Or they can stand together, resist this abomination, and win the gratitude and support of their state and their >2 million living alumni.

I read that Rubio is considering denaturalizing "globalists." We all know who that meansβ€”asserting philosemitism on the one side, targeting Jews on the other.

I believe many shippers are attempting to eliminate information from their electronic correspondence. AmazonΒ now uses an AI abstraction to describe orders - "physical music disk." USPS is notorious for listing the shipping company rather than the business from which the package is coming.

Term limits are difficult. In my state, we have them for local and some statewide offices. When officials leave because of term limits, the new officials arrive without experience, and lobbyists are only too happy to provide "helpful hints." So, two evils: term limits and no term limits.

What does this have to do with governing the country? It's a perverse form of Walter-Mittyism (recurrent fantasies about being heroic that have no relation to ordinary, non-daydreaming life). It's an ex officioΒ membership in the Freikorps.

May our repentance, prayer, and righteousness avert G-d's severe decree. Given events of the past year, G-d may be serving us justice; hopefully, we will merit a little more mercy this year. An easy fast, honest reflection, and a good outcome for all of us!

Plagiarism has been around forever, decreasing in social stigma. It's all transactional: "You wanted a motion for summary judgment conforming to local rules? Here it is, buddy!" Once Lexis + Westlaw better train their tools on the world's largest corpus of structured data, who'll be able to tell?

Wasn't there a letter sent in 1830 from Ashkenazic rabbis in Sfat to the Ten Lost Tribes in Ethiopia? I think it was an elaborate fundraising letter.

Asterisks as far as the eye can see! Previous Trump-regime recipients included Miriam Adelson and Rush Limbaugh. Journalists will have to start stating the administration that gave the award, as they do now for Article 3 judges.

AFAIK, confession is a sacrament. If it's used as a mere salve for conscience, in bad faith, I am sure God knows and will make His move in time. I would not be surprised if, once Christianity becomes the established religion, Trump will sell indulgences to the rich and faithful.

The timing is key. Big Pharma has just about a week to get down on its knees and... abase itself in front of Trump, offering anything, but not those awful tariffs! Trump will collect huge sums, and the tariffs will magically disappear. No Republican small-money donors needed, now.
