I must continue to insist that this is not a strong regime. It does not have the kind of pan-societal support needed to enforce Gleichshaltung. It has significant elite buy-in and a small popular coalition, but it is brittle and feeble and will collapse if pressed hard enough.

Last night, I got home a few mins before 9pm. By the time I was outside to walk the dog at 9:05, there were a dozen federal agents and local cops on the stairs and lawn of the house directly across the street from me.

The fact that eight hundred National Guard members arrested only 23 people on crimes including fare evasion really makes you wonder if there is a genuine emergency.

You know what would actually reduce crime and homelessness?

Universal healthcare, free education, affordable housing and a basic living wage.

When people have their most basic needs met, they have happier and healthier lives.

Those hoarding the wealth don’t want to give us those things.

Spending $200 billion on ICE is a terrible idea I've covered federal law enforcement for two decades. Here are the things that worry me most.

We can't house the homeless because everyone else suffers under the violent brutality of capitalist extremism and irrationally inflated rent.

Already seeing the language being parroted. We're going to hear a constant refrain that just seeing homeless people existing is so much of an affront to the eyes of the fortunate that we have no choice but to stack them like cordwood in gulags.

Pointing out how safe DC by showing the low crime rates isn’t going to convince conservatives because “people breaking the actual law” isn’t what they mean by “crime”. To them, “crime” includes merely seeing black people, unhoused people, and anyone else the bigots clutch pearls about as “crime”

Never forget that homelessness is a policy choice.

They would rather send in the National Guard to arrest and remove unhoused people than provide affordable housing and a living wage.
