17,112 for the match v Swansea in 82-83. Lowest was v Coventry later that season: 12,972. Used td turn up 5 mins before kick off in those days!

Not me!
76-77 I think, might have been there even. That season I did go to the second replay of League Cup Final at Old Trafford. Cracking game, but Everton lost 3-2 to Villa in extra time. Also the season of Clive Thomas disallowing a perfectly good goal at Maine Rd in the FA Cup semi v Liverpool.

Not in the Epstein files:

In the Epstein files:

That's a better way of putting it. πŸ™‚

TisT originally was more about giving amateur 50+ songwriters reasons to give it a proper go. You must agree that the prize to record your song at Abbey Rd is good one!
The comp overshadows the rest of what TisT is about sadly.
And AI songs, no, not for me.

Sneer, sneer, sneer. You can do better Rhodri.
Talent is Timeless started during Covid and was successful way beyond organisers expectations. I got a lot out of the 50+ community it created, also went on one of their courses.
Pity the song comp has got commercial this year, but the concept is great.

BS is possibly relevant comparison, but he had been biding his time as MP.
No real bounceback with Truss or Sunak.
Carney showed how a party can come back from the dead.
Starmer may regain popularity, there are a few parallels with Attlee's 45 govt (see Citizen Clem by John Bew to dig deeper)

'You're stuck with me': Labour fears losing byelection and Burnham returns to work We unpack the weekend's drama and what happens next

It's not an argument! It's the scenario I think AB and his team are gaming which is:
In 28 KS is not looking like he will win 29 GE so doors will open for AB to win a seat & stand against KS for leader. AB wins & goes on to win GE.
Note KS will be 67 in 29 & maybe looking to move away from top job.

26.01.2026 11:52 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

He'd be doing it because he would be expecting/counting on a Burnham Bounce in the polls.
If he's in charge and Lab not govt after 2029 GE he'll quit.

26.01.2026 11:41 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Yes, definitely. Gorton distraction is good for AB boosting his support, influence & long term aspirations. Gorton campaign will be a shitshow whoever Lab candidate is
In 27 or 28 a GM Lab MP who will announce they are standing down at next GE and AB will slide into being the candidate. Job done!

26.01.2026 10:50 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Doubt he wants a 4th term, needs to say this & cultivate successor. I don't see the opps for pop wins like he has had with Bee Network
He's a great listener & communicator surrounded by a savvy team. He enjoys being a common sense irritant, & majority of GM think he does it far better than Reform.

26.01.2026 10:29 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Scenario 2028:
- Reform promises not materialising and losing support
- Tories re-grouped but right vote still split with Reform
- Greens at end of elected honeymoon struggling to show more depth than ZP
- KS tired and not wanting 2nd term and be PM into his 70s
- Burnham bounce for 2029 GE

26.01.2026 09:11 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

There is a limit to how much GM mayor can do under current devolution. AB has done most of the easy stuff very well (though capitulating to drivers of old minicabs on the air quality charge was weak). The next mayoral term will not be as straightforward.

26.01.2026 08:55 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Also, can't see a GM mayoral election taking place until who the Labour successor is is clear. Otherwise Burnham legacy will be trashed.

26.01.2026 08:51 β€” πŸ‘ 5    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

The 'Burnham Card' need not be played by either Starmer or Burnham until 2028. It wouldn't do either any good if Andy stood in Gorton, does him good to have this row, and his team know it.

It does, but everything has gone to plan for you here, Andy! You couldn't not put yourself forward could you?
A win in a sticky by-election -> a shitshow GM election trashing your legacy + you as a back bencher for a least 2 years is not what is in your or the Labour's best interests is it?
