the best part is that he is actually genuinely really mad about this, because Cuellar has broken the golden rule of Trump deals: he gets to stiff you, you don’t get to stiff him

also we are now in a place where rather than deny obvious quid pro quos the president is loudly crashing out online when someone does not provide the quo, so that’s fun

Obama chose policy (ACA). It didn’t fix the authoritarian problem

Biden chose policy (ARP/IRA). It didn’t fix the authoritarian problem

The platform must be <immediate> institutional reform next time. Right from the start, as @dhnexon.bsky.social said

The authoritarian problem is the problem of the rich controlling everyone else’s lives, and the rich will never, ever solve *that* problem. The rich and powerful persuade society from birth that society is rightful oriented from top to bottom in a hierarchy of superiority.

Trends in infectious disease mortality in the United States during the 20th century - PubMed Although most of the 20th century has been marked by declining infectious disease mortality, substantial year-to-year variation as well as recent increases emphasize the dynamic nature of infectious diseases and the need for preparedness to address them.

Ah, the good old days before we believed that the germ theory of infectious disease showed it was harmful.

"Infectious disease mortality declined during the first 8 decades of the 20th century from 797 deaths per 100000 in 1900 to 36 deaths per 100000 in 1980."

I am going to mask because I want to get fewer colds & other flawed ideas A new form of arrogance

Pro-infection:

"It is natural to be infected repeatedly with respiratory virusesβ€” if we got fewer infections what would that mean for auto-immunity for cancer? We have no clue. We have no idea if we would actually live longer or healthier lives trying to dodge seasonal runny noses and coughs."

Politics is beneath them. It's *our* job, we the amorphous 'voters', to self-organize, maybe via social media. Politics is dirty, tainting. They prefer fantasies that the news media who mostly hates them & loves the right are their hired PR team and we are here to donate money to commercial buyers.

the reason they keep thinking they can get sufficient numbers of conservative / Republican / white male working class voters by running candidates who appeal to them & less if not hostile to others is they think those voters (and thus people) are better and they care about them and not the others

If every single election that you lose is the fault of the left not showing up for your candidate, the answer isn't to nominate the guy the left says they will never back unless your goal is not to win

the FIFA thing is amazing, it is way way way way worse than if Obama had constantly bragged about his dumb Nobel peace prize, a thing Obama and any reasonable person would not do in that situation

What about higher prices because of imposed (and often unpredictable taxes) by the government via tariff policies? Surely if X% of a price rise is due to imposed tax costs by the government, and that tax cost were halted (i.e. tariffs stopped), a corresponding lowering of prices is not deflation?

One aspect of the "affordability" story that the great minds who write on this shit seem unable to see is that Trump and his rich friends are trying to end work from home and force people back to the office. This is equivalent to an 8% pay cut, but I guess that's too simple.
