Slang terms like ‘six-seven’ have no definition. But they’re loaded with meaning | Matthew Cantor Older generations are demanding explanations of the viral phrase – but slang doesn’t have to make logical sense

"Holliday...was running a marathon recently, some kids were holding a sign at 6.7-miles...she yelled “six, seven” to their delight. “For a brief moment” she says, “in our lonely, isolated, algorithm-driven world, I connected with those kids on something we shared" www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

The inclination to focus on short term Dem failures rather than Right's long game successes is bad! "That’s the kind of tunnel-vision thinking—focusing only on those factors that you can most immediately control—that has put the party at an increasing disadvantage over the past few decades."

This might be a long shot but: I'm looking to speak with architects/developers who have worked on affordable housing projects that required (or got feedback to include) some type of 'historic complement' aesthetic—massing, materials, etc—for a story. Recommendations appreciated! thanks!

In Utah, Trump’s Vision for Homelessness Begins to Take Shape

Under Trump, the draconian future of homelessness policy is coming into focus: mass internment. Utah is building a 16-acre site to detain up to 1,300 homeless people inside locked "accountability centers." This is profoundly alarming.

Extralibrary Loan: Making the Civic Infrastructure We Need Amid a war on public knowledge, libraries are pushing outward, enlarging the commons through new configurations of civic and creative life.

I wrote about public libraries as spaces of civic solidarity, common knowledge, and public infrastructure — all endangered by commercial and federal saboteurs

Their diminishing of Mamdani is also fascinating. That he's so good at capturing attention means its not him but NYC, which equals being irrelevant anywhere else. I actually think Mamdani's man on the streets videos are pretty populist in a formal sense of the term. And his iconography too.

Working on my big-ass spreadsheet of 2026 books to consider for review coverage. Any narrative nonfiction, memoirs, essay collections, or literary fiction that should especially be on my radar?

Wild to see it all laid out! The Gore/GWB scotus decision & 9/11 as the American bits teeing up #1 ... I used to wonder what if one of those two hadn't happened, but that Q seems smaller now.

Into the Manosphere—in Manuscripts - Cleveland Review of Books Contemporary manosphere literature certainly paints a landscape of patriarchy in crisis, at war with itself about how it should wield its own power.

We finally have some insight into the legal rationale for the government's nighttime raid on a Chicago apartment building. The Times reports that the owners of the building consented, and identified units that were not rented out.
