People know that buying (or winning) a house in another country doesn’t actually entitle you to move and take up residence there, right?

I fear many of the Americans who might think this sounds like a good idea don’t know anything about UK immigration law.

Which would be no bad thing imo. It could then be replaced with something far better - whether that's a federal system, a loose association of independent countries like say the Nordic Council (probably best option) or something else.

It's not like us French haven't showed the result of constantly validating the far right policies by pretending to fight against them by... applying them.

Now the left is weak, the equivalent to the Tories doesn't exist any longer. And the center right is about to crumble.

I don’t understand how they can say this given the Tories themselves deliberately made the English curriculum much harder. Why would you discourage English graduates but also want teachers teaching modal verbs to 10-year-olds and Dickens to 14-year-olds?

But what about “ethnic change”? Yes, the proportion of Islington’s population who are (like me) white British has dropped from perhaps 85% to about 40%. This change is indeed visible. For West, it is “far beyond what any group would find tolerable.” What he doesn’t and can’t say is why exactly I’m supposed to find it intolerable. Why should I, or my neighbours, be more concerned about what race or ethnicity the kids are at the local school than the quality or financing of local services, or whether the council is successfully balancing the need for more housing with the interests of long-standing residents?
