Still trying to make sense of everything and avoid getting too confused! Slightly unhinged, wide range of interests. RIP Boo Boo 2009-2024

09.10.2025 20:09 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0People know that buying (or winning) a house in another country doesnβt actually entitle you to move and take up residence there, right?
I fear many of the Americans who might think this sounds like a good idea donβt know anything about UK immigration law.
Which would be no bad thing imo. It could then be replaced with something far better - whether that's a federal system, a loose association of independent countries like say the Nordic Council (probably best option) or something else.
09.10.2025 15:30 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0It's not like us French haven't showed the result of constantly validating the far right policies by pretending to fight against them by... applying them.
Now the left is weak, the equivalent to the Tories doesn't exist any longer. And the center right is about to crumble.
What about the Faroe Islands π«π΄?
Oh, and Scotland π΄σ §σ ’σ ³σ £σ ΄σ Ώ too please.
Surely the EU needs to expel Hungary if he's re-elected?
09.10.2025 11:15 β π 1 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0βWhite Flightβ is hilarious: Check this, a person of colour moved into a road in North London 30yrs ago. The racist next door fucked off to Clacton. 08.10.2025 14:31 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I donβt understand how they can say this given the Tories themselves deliberately made the English curriculum much harder. Why would you discourage English graduates but also want teachers teaching modal verbs to 10-year-olds and Dickens to 14-year-olds?
08.10.2025 12:41 β π 6 π 2 π¬ 1 π 0But what about βethnic changeβ? Yes, the proportion of Islingtonβs population who are (like me) white British has dropped from perhaps 85% to about 40%. This change is indeed visible. For West, it is βfar beyond what any group would find tolerable.β What he doesnβt and canβt say is why exactly Iβm supposed to find it intolerable. Why should I, or my neighbours, be more concerned about what race or ethnicity the kids are at the local school than the quality or financing of local services, or whether the council is successfully balancing the need for more housing with the interests of long-standing residents?
I wrote about Robert Jenrick's embrace of blood and soil nationalism for @bylinetimes.bsky.social
"The British right is adopting an increasingly extreme form of ethnic identity politics, while failing to explain what the rest of us are supposed to be worried about"

Any chance he could announce tightening rules/standards on the so-called newspapers at the same time? Can just imagine how the Express, Mail, S*n and Telegraph would react.
08.10.2025 13:45 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Wouldn't be so sure there. A lot of the US customary units are different.
Full changeover should've been completed decades ago.
Is any journalist at Conservative conference going to ask Robert Jenrick where he got his new "Let's take our country back," slogan from?
07.10.2025 12:09 β π 269 π 91 π¬ 20 π 1He wants Badenoch to sack him ..so he wins the leadership on 'I speak the truth, but I was silenced' she should still sack him. Question who was the last Tory leader who'd have sacked someone for these remarks? May or Howard perhaps?
07.10.2025 08:53 β π 7 π 2 π¬ 0 π 0I don't know what kind of ideology he's now pushing but it sure as hell ain't conservatism.
07.10.2025 09:32 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I think most sensible people would agree these comments by Jenrick ARE racist or at least very close to that line.
So what does Badenoch do? She could have make a clear stand to call it out while sacking her shadow justice secretary & suspending the Tory whip, eliminating her main opponent.

06.10.2025 15:14 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Kinda ironic what's going on in France. One of the few countries in western Europe to use a majoritarian voting system is right now possibly the most unstable.

What they want is freedom of hate speech and freedom to spread conspiracy theories unchallenged.
Would be helpful if a few people who were still MPs would say this...
