Made the mistake of laying down "for a minute" and now I'm trapped

I remember this speech when Jon Stewart gave it. It was powerful. And urgent. And 100% true. And like too many things over the last many years, it wasn’t taken nearly seriously enough.

"I gotta get back into running," I say on the couch as I eat another nutty buddy

But I don't care about him. I don't really care about his family.

I care that trans people are already being scapegoated for this. I care that there was a school shooting near me. I care that far more trans people are killed a year than racist loudmouth talking heads.

I recognize that it's complicated. It's complicated for me too. On the one hand I don't condone the violence or the death. On the other, he was a hate spewing racist transphobe who was literally in the middle of villainizing trans people when he was shot. Does that mean he deserved it? Of course not

I can't articulate it well yet, but I find it interesting all the people coming out of the woodwork to hold space for someone who would not have done the same for them. By his own words he thought empathy was bad and that lost lives are the cost of gun freedom. 🤷🏻
