r/etymology 1 yr. ago Inspector-Dexter where does the trope of "The [noun] [verb]s at midnight" as a password come from? There's a commercial for PopCorners (a brand of corn chips) airing lately that takes place in a speakeasy, and the password to get into the bar is "The corners pop at night". This reminded me of that old Reddit password meme "The narwhal bacons at midnight", as well as a rerun of Full House I saw as a kid where the password was "The duck flies at midnight". I've heard other similar passwords before that match the template, usually used in a comedic way, but these are the ones that come to mind at the moment. Are they a reference to an old book or movie or something, where a variation of the password was used seriously? Or are these all just (perhaps inadvertently) inspired by that Full House gag from 1987?

the "bacon" and "fedora"+ make me think this is a more recent recent reference to passwords by folks that use the version of Linux referred to as Fedora?

the plant is sentient. it can feel things. humans are sapient (hence the genus and species is homo sapien) because we can have the capacity for self awareness (recognition of self beyond that which acts on drives), reasoning, and complex thought.

find a stable place nearby that you can hold your phone in place, like a wall or tree or something and mark it with something relatively long term like paint to ensure location. then take pictures in the morning, late afternoon and midday everyday to make your own time lapse with photo as frames.
