16.10.2025 16:50 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The June 20, 2025 Enderlin, ND tornado was just upgraded to an EF-5 earlier this morning. This breaks the 12 year drought of EF-5 tornadoes in the US (last was the May 20, 2013 Moore, OK tornado).

Glad I didn't watch that poop-show!
04.10.2025 23:45 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I saw this report on NBC Nightly News this evening. I used to have Aetna for my health insurance, and frankly, their actions in this story are not surprising. Glad I dropped them years ago.

So sorry for your loss, Chris.
25.07.2025 06:19 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0That one's easy. MSM is scared of Trump. Talk bad about him, and get a litigation sledgehammer. Look at what happened to both ABC and CBS for examples.
18.07.2025 00:54 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Great thoughts, Brett! I'm not as familiar with the REFS as I am with the HREF ensemble membership. Does the REFS use the output from the previous runs of the individual ensemble members like the HREF (e.g., HRW FV3 - 12h), or does it only use the new runs?

Year to date (1/1-5/22), @nws.noaa.gov offices have issued 10,939 #SevereThunderstorm and #Tornado Warnings, slightly ahead of 2011. Of those, 2,126 (19.5%) were issued in the last week alone. I want to express thanks to my colleagues, #meteorologists, EMs, & first responders for their hard work!
22.05.2025 11:34 β π 64 π 25 π¬ 1 π 3This is quite the video of a UAV flying inside a tornado. For a split second, you can actually see multiple suction vortices as it broke through the outer wall of the tornado.
19.05.2025 18:18 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0In the NWS, you wouldn't be back to probationary status if you lateral, which is what most of these positions are. You are only probationary in two instances: 1) you're a new hire to the NWS, or 2) you are a newly hired manager in a field office.

12.05.2025 16:02 β π 2 π 2 π¬ 0 π 0Today, I said goodbye to two of my NWS Quad Cities colleagues as they head off to retirement, along with three others in my office over the past few months. 16.04.2025 22:53 β π 17 π 4 π¬ 1 π 1My heart goes out to my colleagues in the southern Mississippi River region. I did a brief forecaster exchange with WFO Memphis a few years ago, and they were such great hosts to me. 02.04.2025 23:47 β π 2 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0Oof, that is a lot of rainfall coming for the mid-Mississippi River Valley. 15+" possible over the next few days! Classic training convection signal with copious amounts of Gulf moisture into a baroclinic zone. π¬

31.03.2025 23:26 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Today marks the 100th anniversary of the #TriStateTornado* of 1925, which took 695 lives. NWS Paducah, KY assembled this web page about the tornado and the advances in meteorological science that it inspired:

The southwestern domain covers an extremely critical fire weather risk; the eastern domain covers an ongoing severe weather risk, and the northern domain will cover an ongoing rainfall/winter weather risk.
So for the first time in Warn-on-Forecast history, THREE simultaneous domains are being run in realtime to capture different weather regimes (fire, severe, and winter). Time to push the limits on what can be done with this cloud-based system!
