The amount of people I know who were suspect of Connolly's keepy-uppy video being AI and who looked closer to be sure of it is a good sign for media literacy.

The spending of โฌ120,000 on a scanner that has never been used is likely to be examined by the review of how the Department of Arts and Culture supervises the institutions under its remit recently announced by the Minister, Patrick OโDonovan, Government sources say. Mr OโDonovan was due to brief the Cabinet on the issue on Tuesday when he brings the annual report of the National Gallery to the Cabinet for approval. RTร reported this morning that the X-ray scanner, purchased by the Gallery eight years ago, has never been used because a suitable room for it has not been found. On his way into Cabinet this morning Tรกnaiste Simon Harris said that his reaction was โabsolute furyโ when he heard about the issue.
The total cost of the controversial new Dรกil printer which did not fit into its designated room will be more than โฌ2 million, it has now emerged. The clerk of the Dรกil, Peter Finnegan, has submitted a new report to the Dรกilโs Public Accounts Committee (PAC) outlining additional costs to those already outlined in previous correspondence. The new figures show the cost is higher than the โฌ1.6 million outlined by the Oireachtas a number of weeks ago.
Gosh Simon Harris must have absolutely lost his mind when he heard about the printer they bought for the Dail that was too big to be used

The great thing with Signal is that not only is it more secure and operated by better people, but it's also flat out the better product in terms of usability and aesthetics. Also no weird AI bots, solid desktop version, and great videoconferencing.

06.12.2024 12:11 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0The last thing I'll say is that Science Gallery paid and commissioned artists for 3-5 exhibitions every year. This is rare these days, especially in the science engagement space.
05.12.2024 13:36 โ ๐ 22 ๐ 2 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0In the sector I work in, Science Gallery was one of the biggest employers. And it could do this for the same reason that 'sustainable business model' is an inaccurate framing for somewhere like this - because our work supported scientific research in and beyond the university.
05.12.2024 11:35 โ ๐ 34 ๐ 4 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0Trinity have finally confirmed that Science Gallery Dublin will not reopen. The focus has been on how much of a cultural loss this is (which I agree with), but it also represents a lot of job losses in a small, struggling sector.
