I took a work out rest week a month and a half ago and it's still going.
Should probably get back on that.
I figured out why I stopped playing videogames though. There is basically only time for one of them.

Hiking, biking, disc golf, electronics, drawing, and games. I post about my kids a lot. We all do better when we all do better.

The answer to fermis paradox is 50/50 they are cool as heck and think we are cringy idiots or that the fleet is already on the way to gobble us up.

We should call it the Human Instrumentality Project.
itโs not good that some monkeys smoke cigarettes. but it is cool

Oh right Microsoft owns cod! So they have no infra pressure to keep download sizes down.
07.08.2025 17:37 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0If a million people downloaded cod that's like 10 mil in egress costs on azure
07.08.2025 17:31 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0So do they have sweetheart deals with the service providers that they don't have to cover the cost of those downloads or something? Someone has to eat those transfer costs and that's a pretty huge egress given how many people install it.
07.08.2025 17:26 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Gonna put in my will that they have to make an AI based on me, but there will be secret instructions to the lawyer to actually base the AI on Gonzo from the muppets.

thanks for the link
The thing about supporting academia is that you are both surrounded by the most intimidatingly smart people you've ever met, but also reminded of that one "School for the Gifted" Far Side comic on a daily basis.

05.08.2025 18:08 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Dropped XCOM for some wacky dosbox issue I didn't feel like fixing. Started playing Xenonauts. It's a really great update to XCOM('94).
I can see some aspects wearing thin, but I can see defaulting to this instead of the original here on out.
Like I get it, sometimes you just want one guy dead. And it's better to use it than dropping a 500lb on the dudes fam.
But there is something so crazy about using conventional weapon systems to drop an assassination missile.
The Hellfire RX9 is an insane weapon. You gotta think the designer at some put put down the pencil, stared into nothing and muttered "are we the bad guys?"
03.08.2025 11:42 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I've been getting back into OpenXCOM. I'm humming along taking out UFOs, building and researching, doing great. Then my first terror mission was a disaster. 8 of 10 soldiers died. Basically starting over with a fresh squad. This game is perfect.
31.07.2025 12:23 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Sysadmins change control mantra: replicable, testable, reversible
And then Microsoft came out with these little patches called "servicing stack updates". And sysadmins learned how to cross out reversible, and added prayer to the list.
Watching the five year olds add new rules to War because the game is "dumb" fills me with pride.
They are currently drafting the cards out of a pile, and ordering the cards in the deck before playing.
Was DISM working
It sits at 90 percent
the logs show nothing
If you've ever seen a launch you understand this is preposterous idea. It shakes the earth. All other noise is deafened, there is nothing in the world but the rocket.
That's at many miles away. No one will allow this in their jurisdiction.
