I've been remote working for 35 years. Any time I hear someone say something about the value of 'all being in the office, you know, ideas, collaborating, talking at the water-cooler, the INNOVATION", I take two mental steps back from that person and look at how my actual teams collaborate remotely.

Simeon Brown accuses doctors of crossing 'ethical line' with mega strike There were audible cries of disbelief during Simeon Brown's speech to senior doctors.

What I would say to you, Simeon, is that the health system should NEVER be underfunded or under resourced in the first place, that is all on YOU.

The only people to cross an ethical threshold are you and your colleagues.

Bessent says bailout for Argentina will double to boost U.S. influence in region The Trump administration is working to arrange private sector financing for Argentina that would double the total U.S. financial lifeline for the embattled Latin nation.

20 billion dollars from the US Treasury **was not enough**. So now it's 40 billion dollars! And why stop there?

All while the US government is shut down.

"America First," amirite?

National’s Luxon problem is now impossible to ignore ANALYSIS: The National Party has a problem. The question is now whether Prime Minister Christopher Luxon can improve, or if the caucus will consider other options.

"much of that appears to be down to Luxon, who has simply struggled to connect with the public in any meaningful way. The numbers on that are pretty clear, even if the reasons for it are contested, up for debate. It's difficult to put a finger on exactly why"

Has Ray Chung ever considered that Wellington's voters, in the city that has two Green MPs, and usually votes Labour or Green, might, and this will shock him, actually want Green/Labour policies?

This is indeed what we have chosen.

But I didn’t and still don’t like making a cult of women’s knowledge, preening ourselves on knowing things men don’t know, women’s deep irrational wisdom, women’s instinctive knowledge of Nature, and so on. All that all too often merely reinforces the masculinist idea of women as primitive and inferior – women’s knowledge as elementary, primitive, always down below at the dark roots, while men get to cultivate and own the flowers and crops that come up into the light. But why should women keep talking baby talk while men get to grow up? Why should women feel blindly while men get to think?

As someone who worked at Telecom and knew how much they fought to retain control of the local loop even though it was completely anti-competitive and maintained a monopoly - the idea of privatising our fibre network is so unfathomably stupid and will result in poorer services for everyone.

Selling off productive publicly owned companies/infrastructure to reduce govt debt is like selling off your car to reduce your mortgage, then taking an uber/taxi to work each day.

Sure you have lower debts, but it costs more in the long run.

Dear Mr Reeve

Official information Act investigation
Ministry of Education
Information about school lunches programme.

I refer to Ms Stewart’s email dated 28 May 2025 regarding this matter.

Ms Stewart advised you that Nick Kennedy had written to the Ministry seeking some further comments. I have now received a response from the Ministry and I am able to advise you of my final opinion on your complaint.

Having considered all the issues raised, I have now formed the opinion that the Ministry did not have good reason to refuse your request in full.

I attach details of my opinion (with some redactions where the commentary would disclose the nature of the information at issue).

I have recommended that the Ministry now assess each piece of information requested against the criteria in the Act for withholding official information and issue you with a revised decision.

I have asked the Ministry to notify me by 14 July 2025 what steps will be taken to give effect to my recommendation.

I have now completed my investigation.

Yours sincerely
John Allen Chief Ombudsman

For those playing at home, the Ombudsman agrees that the Ministry of Education's blanket refusal to my OIA request was not justified.

With just a handful of MPs left at Parliament on Thursday afternoon, the Government was unable to make law.

The House was thrown into confusion during its last debate for the week, with Government MPs seemingly unaware of the requirements for casting a β€œpersonal vote”. A personal vote requires each MP to say, either by filling out a form or attending the debate in-person, how they will vote on an issue.

On Thursday, a personal vote was called for the final reading of a Government bill that would allow television broadcasters to play advertising on Sunday mornings.

Just 13 lawmakers were in the House when the doors were locked to vote on the bill.

Hundreds of teens with a health condition, disability may be cut from Jobseeker benefit The government is ending Jobseeker payments to 18- and 19 year olds whose parents earn more than $65,000.

Fucksake. It's quite clear now that they only looked at this benefit policy as political marketing and took no advice on who it would impact – which includes young people with serious health issues and disabilities. Just feckless and cynical. Shame on them. www.rnz.co.nz/news/politic...
