a brown wire-haired pup stands on a wooden deck in a grassy yard. he looks at us with golden eyes and his right ear flipped inside out. he has a pipe-shaped stick in his mouth, giving him the appearance of a sophisticated and dapper gentleman. just give him a deerstalker cap and a cloak, and he'd give Sherlock Holmes a run for his money.

This pup found a stick shaped like an old timey pipe earlier today and has already solved three mysteries. 13/10

I gather you're having some website issues? I tried to browse the full schedule listings and there are a lot of gaps with no information.

Next week he will probably be part of one of the first-ever Oscar nominations for Casting - which is especially hilarious

Why one small American town won’t stop stoning its residents to death - Charlotte_Stant - The Lottery - Shirley Jackson [Archive of Our Own] An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works

β€œWhy one small American town won’t stop stoning its residents to death,” an AO3 fic in which Isaac Chotiner interviews the guy who runs the lottery in Shirley Jackson’s β€œThe Lottery”, is astounding. archiveofourown.org/works/73396436

True enough. That's why I'm always grateful for the fun things I find scrolling - including the little nostalgiac nudges I often get from your posts.

For me, your show's enthusiasm to advocate for the unexpected and the unlikely is far more interesting "critical value" than so much of what's out there.

Nicely done! The other great reason to recommend The American President is that it’s kind of a Christmas movie.

Rudolph gets all the love, so let’s talk about the names of Santa’s other reindeer.

dasher | noun | one that dashes
dancer | noun | one that dances
prancer | noun | one that walks or moves in a spirited manner

Ok, those three are easy to understand.

The one "upside" argument I've heard that I find to be persuasive is that it's not Paramount.

Regarding your recommendation from a few weeks ago of Nouvelle Vague. I wasn't able to see it in theatres. It's now playing on Netflix in the U.S., but not up here. Do you know if that's one like Woman of the Hour where we just have to wait longer, or does it have different Canadian rights?

So this ad revenue metric is indicative of such a fascinating and weird set of business decisions by Google to inexplicably kill of SEO-- and I honestly don't get how they think this is going to pay off for them in the long run.

I haven’t decided if I enjoy more your enthusiastic writing about Back to the Future or your enthusiastic writing about Jaws. I will always happily take either.

Excellent thread. The NY Times already looks terrible in this story, and somehow they manage to sustain that terrible image.

I legitimately think this article misses the mark, because Canadians are not avoiding travel out of some principled boycott of the USA over tariffs.

Canadians who are avoiding the USA are seeing images of masked government thugs kidnapping people and teargassing children.

For me, the specific-where for 93 is hazier than 92. I was still in residence, and it was somebody's TV lounge (3rd Glencatraz?) with all of the celebrating spilling outside into the commons.

i believe there are about a hundred and fifty million people like me who would pay $17 to watch benicio del toro as sergio st. carlos plan and execute a tight sunday costco run before he has to man the barbecue after his niece's afternoon soccer game (run time: 2 hours 20 minutes)

Griffin’s definition of fascism as palingenetic ultranationalismβ€”specifically a reactionary nostalgia for a lost history of the nation that never existedβ€”remains undefeated. A nostalgia for a type of bread that is ubiquitous, created in the 20th century, and rage towards bread as old as civilisation

When I see people on here unknowingly join moral panics around child safety and technology, I think about how the future of this very platform hangs in the balance of this legislation that is designed to force us back onto big tech platforms. It’s not about the kids. It’s about all of us

Such an underrated Bond villain performance: play-acting at military leadership, a smirk and undeserved swagger - but just enough hints of insecurity to fill in the character.
