A 13-year-old boy was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Everett after an interaction with members of the Everett Police Department and sent to a juvenile detention facility in Virginia, according to his mother and immigration lawyer Andrew Lattarulo.

The boy’s mother, Josiele Berto, was called to pick her son up from the Everett Police Department on Thursday, the day he was arrested. After waiting for about an hour and a half, she was told her son was taken by ICE, Berto told the Globe in a phone interview.

“My world collapsed,” Berto said in Portuguese.

From the police department, the boy was taken to ICE’s holding facility in Burlington on Thursday evening, where he spent a night before being transferred by car to the Northwestern Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Winchester, Va., on Friday morning, his mother said. The juvenile facility is more than 500 miles away from Everett.

The boy is a 7th-grader at Albert N. Parlin School in Everett, his mother said. The teen and his family, who are Brazilian nationals, have a pending asylum case and are authorized to work legally in the United States, Lattarulo said.

ICE kidnapped a 7th-grader with a pending asylum claim and spirited him out of state without notifying his parents, seemingly with the cooperation of the local police in Everett, MA.

In any other country, if federal agents fired upon journalists when unprovoked — what would we call it?

If federal agents marched down streets demanding papers — what would we say?

Authoritarianism — let’s not pretend it’s something else when it happens in our American cities.

Is it Christian to publicly call for the murder of all homeless people?

That's what Brian Kilmeade did on Fox a week ago.

He still has his job.

ICYMI, this is great reporting by @npr.org.

Prisoners were subjected to torture... The only reading material allowed? The Bible.

Andry Hernandez, who told of routine abuse, "was beaten by three guards wearing masks. And forced to perform oral sex on one of the guards."

Ghislane Maxwell is a child sex trafficker that Trump just gave immunity to in exchange for her silence on him.

Wanna bet she only names democrats now and magically gets pardoned in a few years?

We are desperately concerned for our journalists in Gaza, who are increasingly unable to feed themselves and their families. For many months, these independent journalists have been the world's eyes and ears on the ground in Gaza. They are now facing the same dire circumstances as those they are covering.
Journalists endure many deprivations and hardships in warzones. We are deeply alarmed that the threat of starvation is now one of them.
We once again urge the Israeli authorities to allow journalists in and out of Gaza. It is essential that adequate food supplies reach the people there.

Watch every second of this.

Our worst fears are here. With Trump’s new bill, the police state is no longer looming—it’s official.

Expect more raids on a massive scale, shattered families, and a brutal crackdown on humanitarian protections.

I don’t think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE.

This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined.

It is setting up to make what’s happening now look like child’s play. And people are disappearing.

This is the kind of excessive force case DOJ routinely prosecutes. They should open an investigation here, based on the misconduct not the victims status.

Sayed Naser served as a U.S. military interpreter in Afghanistan. Now he’s being deported.

The Taliban assassinated his brother and kidnapped his father. All because he helped us.

Why are the feds trying to deport him, even though his asylum case is still pending?

Not justice, it’s a betrayal.
