First trip to Cook Forest State Park back in October, and it didn’t disappoint. I’ve never seen so many common mergansers in one place; I took a tumble down a hill to get this photo, but it was worth it.

Last winter I tracked a group of common mergansers. I was lucky enough to spot a mom and her ducklings in the spring. Just a few weeks ago, I spotted the all-grown-up ducklings from earlier in the year, inspiring me to start this painting.

Today’s painting is a spotted sandpiper. Saw this guy for the first time down by the crick this summer.

I’ve been saying (and feeling) this same way for the last month. I’ve always been a warm weather kid, but this summer has been rough. I’m all for changing leaves and spooky things.
