This is me belatedly importing a tradition from The Bad Place. Back when "Beer Twitter" was fun, this was an occasional observance, created by @aleofatime.com's podcast partner. No holiday-by-media-release nonsense, just the pure shared joy of great globs of ice cream in delicious dark beer.

Question for people who know things: if I were to go to the Gold Coast for Asian Cup games, is travelling down from Brisbane for the game and back feasible, or a bit of a hassle? Better to stay in GC I guess?

Very weird interaction just now. Some J*hovahs Witnesses knocked on my door, and had some crumpled flyers in their hands about ending war, and a business card. They kind of went through a short spiel apologetically, asked me to look it up on the website, thanked for me my time and left.

One of Britain’s most senior police officers has launched an angry tirade against Extinction Rebellion protesters going β€œall floppy” when they get arrested.

Sir Stephen House, the deputy commissioner of the Metropolitan police, said the tactic of going limp was a β€œflipping nuisance” as it required extra officers to drag protesters away.

House told a London assembly police and crime committee hearing: β€œWe have asked them to stop being floppy. And that might seem like a silly thing to say, but when we arrest them and pick them up, they go all floppy, which is why you see four or five officers carrying them away. It’s a complete waste of officers’ time, and a complete pain in the neck.”

House also expressed annoyance at how the tactic made the police look heavy-handed. He said: β€œThe problem with them going floppy and four offices carrying them away [is that it] looks to the general public like police are overreacting here. We’re not making them go floppy. They’re just sort of being a nuisance.”

This gets progressively funnier with every use of the term "floppy".

I have a memory from about 10 years ago, that I bought gaviscon. But it wasn't normal gaviscon, it was crunchy coated chews, in a plastic dispenser a la tictacs. Not chalky, not weird liquid.

They were useful and not gross. But I fear I dreamed the entire thing as they are nowhere to be found.

Having friends and family in the UK means getting a messy voice message from my friend about her drunken night out and a picture from my Dad of his houseplant he was telling me about, within the same hour.
