View out my window in winter. Didn’t think it would stop snowing. The drift overhang was massive on the red building and on my house. Literally feet of snow. Not trying to make anyone shiver, just to get ready. Energy costs will be higher this year too so layer up use indoor heaters wisely. Get a carbon monoxide alarm to plug into a low to the floor outlet. My detector was above my head mixed with the smoke alarm. A tech came out to fix it and said by the time the carbon monoxide reached that high it would be fatal already, that it needs to be no more than a foot above the floor. Get batteries too 😎

It won’t be long…❄️❄️❄️
Already below freezing a few nights in the high country of Colorado and some early snows have already fallen up there.
Just prepare and don’t be caught off guard.
Change air filters. Stock up on winter prep stuff. Make sure you have two mittens, even if they don’t match ❄️❄️❄️

More chat with an 8 year old…

8 year old: My mom said a bad word in the car today. Pauses…the ‘f’ word.

Me: (I knew why) oh my.

8 year old: I told her she should not say that. She could say, “fluckers” instead. That’s not a bad word.

Me: Well, ‘fluckers’ it is then.

Peaceful. Thinking of you Bobby with Tommy Emmanuel as your inspiration, as we all rode the train across Canada and you brought your guitar and played in the caboose every night. RIP dear friend. 🌿

Must have been a truly terribly and over taxing day for her to stand above the desperate raging mobs below. She’ll need an extra wardrobe change and at least three days of sleep and extra Botox before her next confrontation of wild rebel crowds.

Miscanthus, particularly zebra grass. The plumes are silhouetted against the almost dusky sky which it a beautiful light sky blue with little floating white clouds. The zebra grass is medium green with yellow markings along the shaft of the grass and it stays like this throughout the summer until fall when the plumes emerge and dance in the lightest wind. This Miscanthus grass is in the same family of grasses as Miscanthus sinensis grass that I drew for a botanical illustration book

In my front yard. Fall is in the air for sure when the plums appear.

Sunbeam shines through the clouds over the foothills. Foothills in shadow as storm clouds pass overhead. An opening in the clouds lets a ray of sunshine beam down. Mixed grey clouds fill the upper sky.

A 7” x 3 1/2” piece of designer art paper is scored in half and folded to get a 3 1/2” x 3 1/2” finished size. The piece is punched with a square window to create openings in the front and back folded parts. The edges of the openings are inked with antique photo ink to look aged. A piece of decorative velum paper cut bigger than the opening is placed behind the opening with double sided tape and a fine line of glue if needed. The folded piece is then glued closed. When held up to light the image shows just like a real slide. More details such as stamping, washi tape, stenciling or metal findings can be added to the piece depending on what you are going to use it for. Small shapes can be cut into the very top or sides of the piece to resemble a real slide.

Visitors to an empty eagle’s nest

Screenshot of eagle’s nest after eaglets fledged. I enjoyed checking in on them and so checked the live feed long after they left and just happened to see these little bandits scavenging the nest. There were five little raccoons up in this high nest.

Scorpion in Colorado nestled in forest debris. I never knew we had them here until SJ, an archeologist, sent me a photo. They can sting and cause great pain, like a bee sting, but are not generally considered deadly like scorpions in other parts of the world. The scorpion can be seen with an ultraviolet light at night because their exoskeleton fluoresces. SJ was also on a dig in Mexico when a coworker sat down for a break on a big rock and put her hand right on a scorpion! Down there they can be deadly. Luckily the coworker survived as she was driven to a local hospital by a member of the team who was also a marathon runner and got the coworker to their vehicle quickly.

Said it before, T is just a puppet and as long as those really in power keep him in the spotlight, signing blithering documents, or out of the news they don’t want us to have the true facts about (which we all really know anyway) and on meds, they have free rein and are dismantling our country.

Red, orange yellow and brown fallen fall leaves. It’s wonderful when people leave the walks covered in leaves so one can slowly amble through them and watch them dance around and hear a light crispness of fall. 🍁🍂🍁

Iconic giant pumpkin art on top of silo at Anderson Farms in Colorado. If you plan on going, check out their website first. Weather can influence their schedule. Beautiful blue Colorado sky above. Lots of fall entertainment and open space for kids to run around in. Lots of pumpkins but pricy and kids tend to want the biggest pumpkin they can find 🎃 I am not associated with them, just mentioning them because of the photo. There are several similar pumpkin farms in Colorado. Weekends are crazy busy so expect that.

Had that exact question/conversation with someone in January. Naive on my part to think democracy actually came with such a check and balance system to protect us.

My great grandfather standing by a train. He passed away before I was born. Year unknown on photo. He worked for the railroad and at the time was called a tipple master though that term may not be accurate but just what the family called him based on their immigration here and limited at times understanding of English.
