Very exited about this! To start with we are looking to find and label some of their vocalizations to build a vocabulary, and to link them to video events.
Many very interesting audio-visual modelling challenges! I would like to build an audio-visual vocabulary to help understand their behaviour.

News and updates about the continuous acoustic monitoring at the Auk Lab
Small webpage for an ongoing #bioacoustic monitoring project I am part of at Stora Karlsรถ: auklab-audio.github.io
Adding #audio will hopefully let us learn more about the life of the Guillemots. What are they saying?
Lesson learned: designing a recording setup is a challenge and lots of fun! ๐

Noise pollution isnโt just an inconvenience! ๐๐ฌ
it can disturb entire marine ecosystems.
Understanding how noise disturbance affects wildlife populations requires powerful models, lots of data and a dedicated team.

Thank you for writing this book. I study machine listening methods for bioacoustics. Books like this help me understand the variety of animal sounds, which lead to development of more useful methods. And reading about sound and animals is always enjoyable. Look forward to reading it!

BioacousTalks: Small Bird, Big Data, Deep Learnings with Nilo Recalde
Just remembered that Nilo Recalde had an excellent talk about annotation/validation of thousands of audio clips at BioacousTalks: www.youtube.com/watch?v=n0fr..., maybe his software "pykanto" is worth looking at: nilomr.github.io#software. Depends on how much programming you are willing to do!

Yeah, I agree that it is not really built for large annotation projects in that sense. If you find what you are looking for, please write what you find in this thread! I'm also curious ๐

From left to right: a black and white image with a bird, fox and frog and a question mark above, an icon of a microphone and a camera, illustration of machine listening and computer vision applied on the sensor data, and finally an image of a bird, fox and frog but with color. Indicating that the species have been automatically detected.
I've just launched my new webpage, johnmartinsson.org, where I share my research on machine listening for bioacoustics and ecosystem monitoring. Especially happy about the little clickable animal icons in the top. Click on a few to make a soundscape! #Bioacoustics #MachineLearning #MachineListening

Counting individuals is a hard problem, and still an open research question. What is needed is a model of vocalization frequency for each species, to turn a pure species vocalization count into a count of individuals. Or a model that actually distinguish individuals (not aware of any currently).
08.12.2024 21:33 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0
Sounds very interesting! Do you know which species to expect beforehand? I would say that creating a spectrogram that shows some species should be rather feasible. Especially birds using e.g. BirdNET or BirdAVES, and some programming to process predictions and visualize results.
