A few more thoughts from last night’s vote.

First, let’s stop pretending Trump cares one bit about the economic pressure regular Americans are under.

He treats hardship as something to exploit.

Many things are changing before our eyes. Others are harder to see

Like the US economy

Americans are spending more πŸ’² recovering from disasters and preparing for the next one. 36% of US GDP growth since 2000 is related to climate disasters.

Graduate seminar did a deep dive on Thomas Paine’s Common Sense yesterday. At the line, β€œin America the law is king,” they (14 students from 6 countries) burst out laughing. I've been doing this for 35 years and this is the first time that was a laugh line.

So the senator who is retiring condemns it and the two senators up for reelection wanting Trump’s endorsement won’t comment. Courageous and principled as always.

This is a big deal… my congressman has been in DC for 24 years and hasn’t held a Townhall since 2012.

His rural constituents are standing up.

Remember what’s coming: first, kill Affordable Care credits, doubling costs for tens of millions; then, cut Medicare half a trillion (sleazily, automatically) hurting seniors; then cut Medicaid by a trillion, pounding doctors, hospitals and nursing homes. It’s why we fight.

Trump Admits Americans Didn’t Vote for His Military Crackdowns Yet he and his party keep pretending they have a mandate.

"But Trump never had a mandate to federalize, much less militarize, urban law enforcement. And twice in the last week, he essentially admitted it.

Trump never told voters he would send troops into cities. And if he had, they wouldn’t have supported it."

Trump’s Mar-a-White House The president is desecrating a symbol of liberal democracy and replacing it with a tacky, bloated eyesore.

"No, destroying the White House is not as bad as blowing up boats carrying possibly innocent people. It’s not as bad as corrupting the Justice Department. It’s not as menacing as sending troops into American cities. And yet, this hurt is sharp."

Don’t Cry for Me, Argentina. Here’s $40B Trump’s Giving You. Trump’s MAGA allies aren’t thrilled by the prospect of our stocking up on pesos and Argentinian beef.

Steve Witkoff promised to divest of his crypto assets linked to the Trump family’s crypto schemes.

But 10 months in, and he still hasn’t.

So many of these assets involve Middle East countries with an interest in U.S. policy.

The conflicts of interest are massive. We need answers.

So wait β€” Republicans are insisting Trump is paying for the $250,000,000 ballroom himself (he isn’t)… even as he extorts basically the same amount from the DOJ?

Opinion | Paul Ingrassia’s β€˜Nazi Streak’ The Trump nominee’s repellent texts are a lesson for young MAGA.

THIS is who the White House nominated to lead the Office of Special Counsel:

β€œMLK Jr. was the 1960s George Floyd and his β€˜holiday’ should be ended and tossed into the seventh circle of hell.” β€œI do have a Nazi streak in me from time to time, I will admit it.”

Drug prosecutions have dropped to the lowest level in decades.

All while they waste resources on political pet projects.

The most upsetting part of this story to me is the line where the Times says it is β€œunclear” where the money came from.

Under our constitution,
it is either extremely clear where money comes from - a congressional appropriation - or an illegal channel. So so, @nytimes.com

The deal would give Bukele possession of individuals who threatened to
expose the alleged deals his government made with MS-13 to help
achieve El Salvador's historic drop in violence, officials said. For the
Salvadoran president, a return of the informants was viewed as critical
to preserving his tough-on-crime reputation. It was also a key step in
hindering an ongoing U.S. investigation into his government's
relationship with MS-13, a gang famous for displays of excessive
violence in the United States and elsewhere.
