I like the idea that this Dodgers jersey will become part of the permanent collection of the Vatican Museums with all the other things that popes bought/were given. Four centuries from now this will hang next to a Raphael.

Providing concentrated resources to the unhoused is a good idea. Doing it in a camp in the middle of nowhere, with no other nearby resources or even transportation to get them, is a concentration camp.

In Utah, Trump’s Vision for Homelessness Begins to Take Shape

Christ said that we will always have the poor with us. This isn't an observation of the futility of welfare, it is a commandment to keep the poor nearby, where we can see them, care for them, and develop our own humility.

This plan will end in misery and failure.

This is the path that Salt to Saint follows. It wouldn’t add a ton of distance, and I don’t think staying close to highways is much of a virtue.

What if we started tallying fender bender repairs as positive economic activity? After all the 1500 you spend to fix your axle after jumping a curb is money in the system for body shops and car dealers. And it probably stays in the local community longer than Walmart purchases

The tribune comments are also very bad, but I don’t fear that I have to go to church with the tribune commenters…

The Economist did it right. You want to comment? Write us a letter and we might think about posting some of the good ones.

Pope Leo hits out at critics of global warming In his first major statement on climate change, the pontiff criticises those who minimise climate change.

"God will ask us if we have cultivated and cared for the world that he created for the benefit of all and for future generations, and if we have taken care of our brothers and sisters - what will be our answer, my dear friends?"

every Pacific naval encounter from late 1943 onward is like the IJN Golden Kirin, Glorious Harbinger of Eternal Imperial Dawn versus six identical copies of the USS We Built This Yesterday supplied by a ship that does nothing but make birthday cakes for the other ships

Anyway, here's what this all means.

US soybean farmers have two options.

Grow something else, or get welfare checks forever.

There is no third option.

The Shooter and the Prophet Russell M. Nelson, the Latter-day Saint prophet who preached the need for peacemakers in an angry world, died over the weekend. Then a gunman opened fire on a church in Michigan.

On the death of a prophet, a church shooting in Michigan, and what I learned from President Russell M. Nelson. This was a difficult piece to write. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

Multiple people of my faith community were murdered today, their church building set on fire, and first responders are now searching for the remains of unaccounted for individuals.

And here’s the president bragging about the tackiness of his office.

Nelson, a physician, led the church during a pandemic and urged members to be vaccinated (not all members followed this counsel). The next leader Oaks is a constitutional law scholar and a strong champion of the rule of law (we’ll see how many listen to him).

Tell me you have no idea what Utah County is like without telling me you have no idea what Utah County is like.

At the No Kings protests this summer, someone starting chanting F*CK Trump and he was drowned out by LDS Hymns about loving one another.

Well, Reed Smoot (as in Smoot-Hawley) was an LDS apostle. But I feel like current church leadership would be annoyed to think that 150-year old quotes are meant to be interpreted as current policy guidance.
