If I could get this book into the hands of every single person in the world, I think we'd all be better off for it. I borrowed it from my local library, but I'm fully planning to get a copy of my own soon, as well as one for every person I believe I can coax into reading it.

Don't have much time to write out my thoughts, but: I can hardly say enough good things about "The Art of Logic in an Illogical World" by Dr. Eugenia Cheng. An asbolitrly amazing intro to logical principles through a modern and compassionate lens.

Let's see... a one on one sport prone to fluke results that generates enormous revenue but transfers almost none of it to increasingly anonymous athletes in a global environment of rapid gambling expansion. Maybe you could write a better formula for fight fixing but I sure couldn't.

No real workable conclusions here, just thinking about this because I went to the library earlier looking for references on political science / economics, and at least two of the books I checked out after tentatively paging through them turned out to be weird grindset "entrepreneur" garbage.

Recs can be helpful, but also misleading. I remember "The Secret" being touted as this great landmark in literature back when I was a teen, by everyone from celebrities and politicians to my teachers elder family members. Nowadays common consensus seems to be that it is, and always was, nonsense.

The great thing about books is they're an incredibly accessible and effective way of acquiring and processing new information.

The bad thing about books is, like any other media, they can look promising but be absolute drivel, and the only way you can find out is after you spend 2+ hours reading.

Tangentially related: Anyone who reads this article should wonder why the kind of person who gets high on nitrous oxide has access to a 2-ton mini-tank with the power to blow up a building on a whim.

It's crazy to me how eager some people are to excuse irresponsible driving. In my 28 years on this earth I have never once made a building explode with my car. Neither has anyone I know, I'm fairly certain. If you're the exception to that rule, I think it's in some way your fault.

Water is down for a bit at my apartment, so I came to McD's for some aircon + a soda, and there's at least three different people watching tiktoks full blast at any moment. It's an auditory nightmare.

I think a lot about this type of writing. I think it stems from a lack of control over tone. The best parts of your favorite books are dramatic, therefore good writing has to be as dramatic as possible. It's the prose equivalent of having candy for dinner.
