What I resent is search engines forcing me to use it. I don’t want its β€œhelp” - nor do I want to aid in its disastrous environmental impacts.

This stop sign in my neighborhood looks like it’s in the Halloween spirit!

Neandertal Cold Adaptation: Technological, Anatomical, and Physiological Responses to Cold Stress in One of Our Closest Fossil Relatives Neandertals occupied western Eurasia for over 100 000 years, repeatedly enduring climates that ranged from seasonally cold to glacial. This paper reexamines the question of Neandertal cold adaptation...

My new paper (open access) reviewing Neandertal cold adaptation is out in AJHB. Shoutout to my awesome coauthors Cara Ocobock, Libby Cowgill, & Scott Maddux. Great fun working with you all! onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/...

I find comfort in these landscapes where people worked land on rath and ringfort. They've had the same fears for future. They're us.

For just a moment to be
Part of life's eternal rhyme
How very special are we
To have on our family tree

It’s a weird feeling when someone β€œshows their age” by making reference to something you’re too old to know about.

Google Maps thinks I can walk from Dublin to Glasgow in just under three days. But it wants to be sure I know there are stairs in the way.

Obviously, when it does happen you'll hear it here first, because of our many inside sources.
Or, as the Americans would write it, sorces.

My favorite Latin equivalent phrase is β€œcum mula peperit” - β€œwhen a mule foals” - while most mules are sterile, there’s ca. a 1/10,000 chance a female mule will give birth.

#StandingStoneSunday Grange Stone Circle, Lough Gur, Co. Limerick. Ireland’s largest stone circle at 46 m, it has 113 mostly limestone standing stones. The biggest, L in my 2022 photo, is 40 tons. Late Neolithic/Chalcolithic in age (ca. 3000-2500 BCE), but many of the stones were added in the 1870s.

We still get it in paper format (πŸ¦•)- my spouse reads it religiously; I don’t. It’s very helpful with big purchases: e.g., appliances, cars, but we also archive them, as they have later proven useful for smaller items, as well.
