Transforming an Old Shack in the Desert into our Office
We transformed an old shack in the desert into our off-grid home office and laundry room! Join us as we discuss the process in this blog.
For over 3 YEARS I ran Applied Worldwide from our self-converted van, working from bed more days than not.
This year, things look SO different after transforming this old shack in the desert into our off-grid office!

Can Applied Sociology be a Catalyst for Radical Inclusion in Sociology?
Can applied sociology be a catalyst for radical inclusion in sociology? Read more from applied sociologist and consultant Dr. Stephanie Wilson.
I wrote this blog this morning.
If you are a sociologist that believes in radical inclusion in our discipline, I have a feeling it will resonate with you.
Even better if you learn something new about applied sociology!

As sociology instructors and profs, we are simply providing students with a wide range of perspectives through which to understand our social world. The fact that they are most drawn to theories on power relations is telling of the times of inequity we are living through.

I teach the full spectrum of theories and theorists, and while Iβm only halfway through my grading right now, nearly all of them expressed having the most interest in Marx, feminist theories, and critical race theories.

As I grade my students first assignment for my Social Theory course this semester, Iβm reminded that no one is forcing students to be drawn to critical theory. Our discipline provides students with the perspectives they are already searching for.

So, why would we expect social theory today to be anything but a reflection of the social changes we are living through?
Sociological theory has evolved to be as critical as it currently is because critical theory is highly relevant to the challenges we are living through today as a society. 2/2

Hi there, Bluesky! I see the discourse on Theory & Society and have few quick thoughts to share as a social theory instructor...
Isn't social theory a reflection of the social changes happening at the time? *Thinking about the Industrial Revolution as a catalyst for Marxism* 1/2
