Everything I've heard about the series had said that the worldbuilding is INSANE. I guess the authors that write the series are anthropologists.
This is the big series on my list to read because of that worldbuilding.

Research & Scholarship Librarian in MI. New to academia after leaving the federal gov't. You might recognize me from my gaming account. This is my "professional" account for networking and such. Opinions are my own. Might as well use this domain I have!

It's always sad when you find something that works well then the company completely screws it up for no reason.
I hope ranting about it made you feel a bit better at least!
That's awful. Even with things I know super well I like to double check to make sure I'm not hallucinating some detail. And I'm not even sure I could do *anything* by hand anymore! ๐คฃ

I really hated not getting responses at all. I know places are getting slammed with apps but it would be nice to know that it's because you're slow, not ghosting me!
It was a networking kind of day today. Internal networking, at least, though I wrote a blog entry on it too.
Thinking about how to network externally as well.
Don't sleep on the other identities either. All three are pretty great. I'm going to have to go check them out and grab some gear. The Dogmen gear is pretty sweet.
04.02.2026 14:46 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0That's good advice. I know for this job that service on committees is one thing that is considered come promotion time. I'll definitely be looking to see what it's might suit me and skills.

04.02.2026 14:36 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I haven't been a member of any organization since I started working for the government, so I'm trying to figure out which to get involved in now. ACRL is definitely one I'm considering, along with some local ones.
Getting a chance to network again is something I'm looking forward to!
Not really. It's probably closer to a liaison librarian than anything. I'm at a smaller institution so it's a lot more general since we didn't have the staff to be that specialized.
But I think there's a component that will be scholarly communication over it gets going! Still easing in.
You shouldn't even be allowed to shitpost if you're under, like, 40. The youth don't understand what true shitposting is!
Then again, no one ever said I knew what I was talking about. ๐คทโโ๏ธ
I guess I should do a little #introduction:
I'm Rob and I've recently taken a job as a Research & Scholarship Librarian. I've transitioned after 10 years as a fed, so academia is a new beast. I guess I'm going to try blogging about it too.
I'm separating professional life and hobby life with this!
Finally got around to making a "professional" account instead of using my gaming account. I think that will help me separate the two spheres of online life.
And now I can utilize this domain that I've had for a while and done nothing with! Two birds and all...
