This is the important work of a city council and municipal government. It's rarely headline-grabbing, but making neighbourhoods safer, block by block, is what it's all about. Ashley is one of the best in North America at understanding this, and making needed change happen in Edmonton.

Image of a poster in a GP office. It is a picture of a bathroom with a toilet and sink, towels on a railing and a shower curtain. The text reads "There are colon cancer screening facilities all over Nova Scotia. Like this one, in Margaret's House. Over the next two years Cancer Care Nova Scotia will be mailing colon cancer home screening kits to people between 50-74 years of age. The kit can be used in the comfort and privacy of your own home. If detected early, colon cancer is curable. For more information call 1-866-599-2267 or visit our website - www.cancercare.nc.ca".

Snapped this advert for colon cancer screening at a recent GP appt. Very well done @cancersociety.bsky.social! I have a faulty gene that causes cancer so I'm well-screened already, but embarrassment can put people off getting screened for colon cancer. Tests like these are key for #CancerPrevention

In addition to all the incontrovertible evidence around the value of bike lanes, I want to share my experience as someone who has been biking in Halifax as an adult for the past 12 years.
I live with the extraordinary pain that comes with having arthritis since I was 14 months old. My ebike is my mobility aid and cycling is absolutely fundamental to my ability to participate in society. Because of my specific disability, transit doesn't work for me and I don't own a car, nor do I want to.
Biking, and then ebiking, allowed me to delay my first ankle replacement surgery by a decade. I will need my other ankle replaced in the coming years, but relying on my ebike to get around helps alleviate the pressure on my joints and delay that surgery as long as possible. Cycling truly is a miracle for my disabled body, and both my orthopedic surgeon and rheumatologist encourage me to continue using this fantastic mobility aid.

My personal experience of the magic of cycling has led me to become a co-organizer of Kidical Mass Halifax and a member of Bike Brigade Halifax. With Kidical Mass, I learn about the experiences of kids (and their grownups) who are being denied the freedom of movement by bike because the promised bike lanes haven't yet been delivered. These kids and their families need bike lanes now, not after more and more delays.
With Bike Brigade Halifax, we help to address food insecurity by delivering food to community fridges and individuals. Many of these individuals who receive deliveries are living with disabilities and in car-dependent neighbourhoods where they have no meaningful transportation options.
Without the food deliveries by bike, they have less access to food and to the social connection they gain when visited by cyclists.

We all deserve meaningful transportation options and pitting different modes against each other is not a way to achieve a functioning transportation system that works for everyone.
Like many Haligonians, I need bike lanes to support my safe travel around the city and beyond. I get groceries, attend medical appointments, visit friends, and experience nature - all by ebike, all year round.
We've seen great progress on bike lanes over the last few years, but much more is needed and to pause any activities now would be foolhardy.
Please vote against the mayor's shortsighted motion that only serves to further divide our city.

I donโ€™t think people should have to share their personal stories to get elected officials to do the right thing, but I am open about my experience because I think itโ€™s not widely understood how bikes are mobility aids. Hereโ€™s my letter to council about the mayorโ€™s motion to stop bike lane progress.

Am I the only one who finds it slightly galling that premiers are pitching major projects to an open-eared prime minister right now -- including pipelines -- as a province burns around them and people are forced to evacuate?????

As a result of wildfires which are exacerbated by climate change???

Deliberate strategy. Measurable gains. Public space reclaimed for people, not pollution. Paris didnโ€™t just hope for clean airโ€”it redesigned for it.

Good design leads to good policy. Good policy leads to good outcomes, and justice.

Trading a car focus for a people focus is a good trade, indeed.

Building a tariff-proof future means building a resilient workforce and setting the next generation up for success. The post-secondary cuts in yesterdayโ€™s budget are a devastating blow, and they will be felt in communities across the province. #onpoli #onPSE

This is a crucial moment to speak up and make it clear that Prime Minister Carney must put the public good ahead of corporate profit. I just sent him and my MP a letter using 350 Canada's quick tool. Add your voice now!

Last year, Bologna adopted a 30km/h speed limit and has seen its first year without pedestrian fatalities since 1991. The change also significantly increased the number of people choosing the bike.

I used to work for charities in Canada and knew that both volunteerism and charitable work in Continental Europe at least was very different as in โ€œlessโ€ but thinking now itโ€™s perhaps because their collective socialist culture was โ€œmoreโ€

Allow me to address the elephant in the room: The decades-long outsourcing of domestic manufacturing to China was not an insidious Chinese conspiracy for dominance but the greedy strategy of the American ruling class to explode its profit margins by exploiting global inequality.

If you review the CPC platform, there is no new funding noted for next year for any of these programs below, which means they will NOT be renegotiated year over year, they will be cut after 1 year. No childcare, no pharmacare, no dentalcare.

I warned everyone. #FederalElection #Canada #cdnpoli

The courts have granted an injunction against the ripping out of bike lanes.

This likely means that no bike lanes will be able to be legally removed until after the courts have made a decision on whether or not eliminating the lanes violates the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

There is something I find profoundly annoying about the fact that Alberta is the richest province in Canada in terms of both GDP per capita and market income per capita, and yet somehow they constantly act like they're getting the short end of the stick.
