Their vision for automation is a robot with a whip

A lathe-turned bowl made of spalted (slightly-decayed) poplar and clear epoxy resin that has some pearlescent pigment mixed in. It's about five and a half inches high and seven and a half inches wide at the sharp, outward-curving lip. Lots of curving and unusual patters in the wood, which runs from cream through orange to dark brown. There are various shapes made of the resin throughout. It started with a half-log that had cracked along some of the rings, making arcs around the center. I split the sections apart, cleaned out debris, put shims in-between to make more space, and glued the arcs back in order. Then I pressure-infused with the clear resin plus pigment powder, and turned the result on a lathe. The piece is finished with many layers of French polish, which I discovered is very tricky stuff.
Here's something I've been working on lately, made from locally-found, wood pile poplar and epoxy resin. Details are in the alt text.
