Given the lack of any evidence whatsoever that anyone would have done it differently, it's hard to say definitively that it's not inherent. I fully agree that in a different world, it may not have to be. But in this world, I don't think it would have happened without theft.

I don't know the answer of whether theft is inherent in the tech, because it's never been done that way. Could a model be developed from material the authors provided willingly? I guess? But who would those authors be? How would you get permission? It would be a lot of authors, in many contexts.

Yes, if things are unethical from the get-go, I do not support them. If you think that means there's a lot in this world that I don't support, you're right. Part of the question is whether the value is worth the cost. We haven't even gotten into all the costs of AI.

I would 100% say that the way discoveries were made is wrong if they were made in unethical ways, yes.
