Great movie. Bill Duke should have more films to his credit. Criterion has some great movies in this month's lineup.

I took a class on how to use Adobe Illustrator to help me do lettering, guess what? It was hard, and I'm shit at lettering. So, yeah, you're actually a letterer.

JB Pritzker understands something that most people in positions of leadership don't. Give this a listen.

The coup de grace: "Is it reasonable to claim for a lack of 'English food' on a continental holiday? Probably not. However, at least one TUI customer has succeeded in claiming limited compensation for this alleged breach, although she has got to buy another holiday to use it!"

The use of past or present is as important to consider as point-of-view because it's a means of pacing, which is the cornerstone of suspense building. Blood Meridian is a great example of choosing the present tense over past tense despite the story being in the past, complimenting the pace.

Sad to hear Butch Guice has left the planet. I first remember his work on Death of Superman as a kid, but I really dug his work on Winter Soldier. His linework had clarity and oomph. There's a ton to admire about his work.

I've been a fan of his work since seeing Real Genius as a kid, but my favorite movie with him is The Salton Sea. It's natural and vulnerable. One thing for sure is that he was a one-of-a-kind. Sail on.

Improve a first line by substituting Mrs. Dalloway.

An abandoned auto court in the San Berdoo foothills; Mrs. Dalloway checked in with 94000 dollars, 18 pounds of high-grade heroin, a 10-gauge pump, a .38 special, a .45 automatic, and a switchblade he’d bought off a pachuco at the border...

It has become a pet peeve of mine when people bash writers. That wasn't always the case, but as I have read more, written more, and taught more, I'd rather focus on what works and what doesn't work in writing so that helps me be a better reader, writer, and teacher.

That's one of my favorite things about European comic shops. And I love that even the smaller towns have multiple comic shops. It's kicked up a notch because they have an ecosystem to support it.

Now you need some proper leather gloves so that you can smack someone across the face and demand a pistol duel at 20 paces.

It's too abstract for most people's comprehension that what is construed as an act of violence might be an act of self-defense. It's a matter of shades and nuance at that point, but when you see that a system is geared towards harming you in discreet and indiscreet ways, some will act preemptively.
