This is an unbelievable situation. How can people believe it is unfair to have diversity in research?! Whether it be participant or researcher, diversity brings different lived experience and potential for different outcomes that are more applicable to everyone!

Figure with three panels showing 1) % of patients receiving analgesics by age group with bars for male and female patients within each age group (at every age, female patients are less likely to receive analgesics); 2) % of patients receiving analgesics based on pain score, with one line for female patients and another for male patients. At every pain level, female patients are less likely than male patients to receive analgesics; 3) % receiving analgesics by physician sex, shows that male patients are more likely to receive analgesics from both male and female physicians

Figure with 3 panels, showing 1) % of patients receiving any analgesic, grouped by pain score—female patients are less likely to receive analgesics than male patients at every level of pain; 2) % of patients receiving opioids by pain score—female patients are less likely to receive opioids than male patients at every pain level aside from “mild pain”; 3) % of patients receiving non-opioid analgesics—female patients are less likely to receive these than male patients if pain is not recorded or they have severe pain

A new study in PNAS (N>20k) confirms women’s pain is taken less seriously than that of men, with women being less likely to receive pain meds and waiting 30 minutes longer to be seen in the ED.

Sadly, the same reasons we treat women poorly in our society translate to how we treat women patients.

The current head of US Health and Human Services Xavier Becerra is well advised to start mobilizing against H5N1 *now* before incoming RFK Jr hobbles the nation's ability to curtail a potential deadly pandemic.

And Canada... let's push that vaccine production/purchase button.
