I don’t see a way in which this kind penalize the childless instead of rewarding parents policy results in anything other than the tax authorities having my detailed medical records.

Heavier taxes on business & tax credits for families get us more or less where we need to be without unnecessarily penalizing people without kids.
Most reasonable people know that. The original post where about penalizing us had resentment stink-lines all over it.

100%, I was picking apart the original assertion on another thread. As others have said, we are not societal dead weight for not having kids. Hell, I do a fuckton of free childcare so overburdened parents can have a second to themselves.

I want a world where it’s way easier to be a parent, children are safe & cared for, neighborhoods are not age segregated, & where nobody hassles me about not having kids of my own.

But framing this as a “fuck you for opting out of having kids, pay me for having them” is stupid & weird. Child tax credits get you there without being antagonistic to people like me.

Anyway, that guy sucks.

I don’t MIND paying taxes. I am happy that I’m helping fund good schools, a well stocked library, & safe parks for the kids of my town. I’m happy that my taxes benefit kids in much poorer towns in my state. We should expand all family services!

I’m already paying more in taxes because I don’t have the deductions people with children do.

I don’t mean this ideologically. I mean that the democrats have made us all collectively unsafe by not reigning in the police & sharifs under their justification because it’s clear where who the security forces are loyal to.

It’s a real problem that state level democrats never challenged the power of their internals security forces but instead showered them with military gear & fawned over them every chance they got.

The only strong housing movements in Maine is in Portland & maybe Brunswick. Certainly not in my town where the major ethos is “fuck you for moving here even if you’re from here.” He can’t do shit about that in DC.

My major concern is that a centerpiece of his campaign is housing &, honestly, what the fuck can you do about housing in Maine in DC? That’s a city council fight that could maybe end up in your local statehouse if your movement is strong enough. Which if mostly isn’t here.

I think you’re read that he’s a progressive that would end up easily capitulating to the dc center lib consensus is more likely.

I see a lot of people think he’s just Fetterman & I’m like 1. I don’t think you become Fetterman without a major brain injury & 2. It’s such a bad understanding of regional Types of Guy. Gruff progressive man who works with his hands is a stock character here.

I don’t think we can actually tell yet how he’d behave when in the senate, I’ll be honest. The momentum in the ground is real but he’s way too cagey about immigration.
