Student Notebook: The Physics of Autistic Inertia Hari Srinivasan describes the difficulty autistic people face in starting, stopping, or switching tasks, as well as how to manage this feeling of “inertia” as a graduate student.

“Newton’s … law of inertia, tells us that an object at rest stays at rest, & an object in motion stays in motion, unless something intervenes. In daily life, autistic inertia echoes this: Starts, stops, & shifts can require disproportionate effort.”

I've spent the past weeks publishing my flankr package on CRAN for R. Users who've only installed the first version will notice SIGNIFICANT improvements in model fit speed.

Plus, I made a hex sticker for it.

(nb this is a preprint - the work hasn't been peer reviewed yet)

2. there were concerns about risks to the individual (via reidentification). Participants did not feel well informed about the implications of agreeing to make data open. We presented different models of access restrictions for open data, participants tended to prefer restricted access.

1. there were concerns about the possible impact on the autism community. That data can be re-narrativised in a way which is detached from the context of the study the participant had consented to take part in

Participants were positive about research and the potential for open data to improve autism research. However:

There has been a lot of debate and discussion about open research over the past ~15 years but the perspective of participants is often missing.

Here, we interviewed autistic adults and the parents of autistic children on their views about open data.

Open research has introduced interventions to make the work of researchers more transparent and reliable. This has included making anonymised data from research studies open.
