the cruise industry (just as any other) will do the bare minimum they are required by regulation. they can destroy the planet and keep visiting 'nice places' - yet have an overall devastating effect on the planet's system.

not really in the mood for discussion today though so ..

what do you mean absolutely not true?

the industry is making zero effort, but of course they would say that, how else are they going to fill their cruise ships?

you can enjoy all those things, and noone said otherwise, but not acknowledging the impact they have is naive at best.

anyway, have a good day

and of course taht will make it more expensive as they will push the cost on tourist. which probably is not a bad thing as it might encourage people to travel slower.

i have no problem with tourism, i have a problem with fast tourism

cruise tourism has the worse impact on the environment. it is some of the worst form of tourism we have and should be discourage but keeps growing lately.

you can encourage them to be as 'responsible' as you want but until you use money / kurtaxe /environmental credits no business will change

They go back to their ship and eat there and don’t contribute to local economy in any way.

We have the same issue in Oxford. Buses offload people here who take the rad cam : Christchurch : random other Oxford street photo then spend the rest of day shopping in Bicester village

As my social media use is exclusively bluesky yes I have a limited view. But I speak to real
Human friends who see one off day as β€œdoing something” and won’t return.

Big ships polluting rivers, thousands of visitors crowding small towns and not spending any cash is very different.

How’s the da Vinci robot fitting in here, whilst I would never argue against its achievement elsewhere, afaik its use in cardiac surgery is rather narrow.

How can you attribute ⬇️ mortality?

The majority of reduced death rates is really:
Better drugs, less smoking

Public health takes the medal

I doubt it

In times of instagram its β€œbeen there done that”

A friend of mine β€œdid Poland” in a day for their travelling achievement πŸ˜’

No doctor wants to strike. When no one listens what alternative is there? Many are voting with their feet. Those who strike at least try to stay, is the word on the ground….

Been an odd bit of whiplash today reading this very accurate piece while also reading an email from a large hospital celebrating the fact they've managed to cut their daytime and out of hour medical staffing.

Especially depressing reading about them cutting trust and clinical fellow posts

hey @dieworkwear.bsky.social - im writing a presentation about customised 'tailored' patient care and really need a picture of the best tailoring there is - who should i include?

(the chances of the SoMe hero of men's clothing replying to me are near zero, so i welcome comments from anyone else)

You know what, I read this and for the first time ever realised that was the problem

As an immunologist in my first life, I never read it like this cause for me immunity is a complex and messy system

Locally, People I speak to leave because

- better pay (oz, USA, Middle East)

And often a mix of the below:
- shorter training (eu, USA)
- doctors are still valued (as above plus Canada)
- better quality of life (all above)
- better options for research + being better rewarded (USA, some eu)
