I bought SATA drives for a SATA drive docking station to setup a digital collection for my movies and tv shows. Instead I received SAS drives, which from my understanding are like the commercial version of SATA drives. They do not fit in a SATA drive bay because of their gigantic casings

I bought something from Amazon for the first time in a long time, only for them to blatantly send me the wrong product and then make me ship it back to get a refund.

The Draw Steel book describes Cinematic as basically "if an action movie wouldn't worry about it, we don't."

They don't really track gear, or rations, or torches, or anything like that. It's not a dungeon crawler. It's not a horror movie. It's only the interesting scenes.

As an example, Draw Steel has no gear systems at all. Do you have an ability that lets you pick locks? Then you have lockpicks.

Do you have the kit for heavy weapons? Then you have a heavy Weapon, whatever one you want.

Damage and tactics come from the powers, so why would you need gear?

The problem with this is that now nothing is required, so everything is half assed.

Daggerheart and Draw Steel both grabbed the parts of 5e that they wanted to be, and fully dedicated themselves to it. They both cut a lot of the system out, and they are better for it.

Coming back to say my point a little clearer. 5e was muddled. It wanted to give you the option to engage in systems without making them necessary, and it did that for its whole system.

It wanted to be tactical, cinematic, narrative, freeform, rules based, and let you choose what to engage with.

(2/2) Daggerheart has some tactical choices, but it is a narrative game first. They got rid of the need for strict speed tracking, or initiative. They took elements from PbTA games.

Draw Steel, on the other hand, went hard in the other direction. Intensely tactical and cinematic. Inspired by 4e.

(1/2) Obviously their already massive audiences were the key factor in, as this post says, absolutely bodying DND.

But there's also something interesting. They both took a piece of DND they liked and made a whole game around it, and those are different pieces.

Yeah, the funniest part of this framing is having this piece go national at the same time that Daggerheart and MCDM are holding hands and just fucking BODYING “the world’s most popular role-playing game” from FLGS to GenCon, poaching WOTC leads (DP) & setting new standards for best practices (MCDM)

(3/3) they seem to have no reverence or understanding for the idea that this is a real religious thing, and not just a weird fucked up monster the author would thought would be fun and cool to write about.

(2/3) At no point did this person ever think to Google the religious term named constantly throughout the book, confusing a deeply religious constructed creature with the fucked up little hobbit from The Hobbit.

The worst part of following TTRPG luminaries from diverse disciplines whom I respect, admire, and wish to learn and draw inspiration from, is seeing how much they all fucking hate each other

A pretty common problem, and I think I'll blame Social Media for this even if its not entirely accurate, is escalation and bad faith reads. I think a lot of our more embarrassing and silly blowups could be avoided with everyone taking a couple breaths or just assuming best faith

the revival of the onion video team has made some incredible videos in the last year but this might be the best yet

While I feel increasingly detached from combat-centric TTRPGs, I also feel kinda dumbstruck by the fact it is so rare to see mechanical innovation that is accompanied by crunch and build variety. Its as if there is a general incapability of creating new, deep scalable systems that mechanize combat.
