No, tariffs can't replace income taxes Tariffs are not a realistic tax base. They're among the worst taxes imaginable—narrow, arbitrary, unstable, and regressive.

Liverpool have done it. They've done it at a canter, in style, with ease.

They are the 2024-25 Premier League champions.

Donald Trump baffles economists with tariff formula Calculation deeply flawed economically and will fail in stated aim of ‘driving bilateral trade deficits to zero’, say analysts

Yes, I've seen there was a "formula" at work here, but it's the equivalent of dividing apples by oranges and coming up with a result dictating how many pears you need. The FT is very good on the nonsense: www.ft.com/content/85d7...

Today, April 2, President Trump added another 34% tariff on imports from China.

This is in addition to the 10% on February 4, the 10% on March 4, and the substantial increase during Trump 1.0.

Starting April 5, the average US tariff on imports from China will be 76%.

DelBene, Beyer Introduce Legislation to Block President from Imposing Unchecked Tariffs

(1/4) @repdelbene.bsky.social and @beyer.house.gov have today reintroduced legislation re. Congressional tariff authority.

This is important. Congress needs to exert its authority in order to prevent a massive tax increase that will raise prices for Americans.

Tariffs are a tax on Americans, no matter what you call the agency that collects them.

The mercantilism, which will continue until morale improves, is bad economics, bad history, & bad politics, & Joe Biden should never have listened to the awful advice he got from Jake Sullivan, Katherine Tai, & company these last four years:

Trump, the self-described 'tariff man,' does not understand how tariffs work Since the president-elect refuses to admit that levies on imports are taxes paid by Americans, he sees no downside to raising them.

Donald Trump claims the heavy tariffs he plans to impose during his second term are "going to make us rich," at no cost to American businesses or consumers.

That is a dangerous fantasy.
