The Fall/Autumnal Equinox is TODAY at 2:19 PM EDT. That's the time at which our Sun is directly over the Earth's equator, signaling the start of Northern Hemisphere astronomical fall. The Earth’s northern hemisphere will continue to tilt further from the sun through the Winter Solstice on Dec 21.

There’s a β€˜ghost hurricane’ in the forecast. It could help predict a real one | CNN A scary-looking weather forecast showing a hurricane hitting the Gulf Coast in the second half of June swirled around social media this weekβ€”but don’t panic. It’s this season’s first β€œghost hurricane....

Similar hype plays out every hurricane season, especially at the beginning: A cherry-picked, worst-case-scenario model run goes viral, but more often than not, will never come to fruition.

Very sad to hear the passing of Peter Coade. I was lucky to have met him in person a several years ago and share how I would watch him at noon on ASN as a teen. I would plan my summer mowing jobs and other outdoor activities accordingly, which led me to wanting to study meteorology. RIP

The U.S. #NationalWeatherService, housed within #NOAA, is a truly world-class meteorological predictive service, perhaps singularly so. It costs only ~$3/yr per taxpayer, & yields ~10:1 return on investment--saving economy 10s-100s of billions, not to mention thousands of lives.

Doge staffers enter Noaa headquarters and incite reports of cuts and threats Members reportedly sought access to IT systems at agency that Project 2025 has called β€˜harmful to US prosperity’

You won't encounter a less-political and more publicly beneficial organization than NOAA. It's filled with scientists, technicians, and analysts who entered their fields because they love what they do. The competence-to-fat ratio is probably higher at NOAA than anywhere. Destroying it is abhorrent.
