Very crowded boats full of pink-clad rowers.

Last June we saw these pink-clad #rowers in #Venice. They were participating in #Vogalonga, when as many as 8,000 rowers flood the canals. According to the Vogalonga website, the noncompetitive event aims to foster "conscious respect for the nature and culture of our city."

Recently we visited several #birding sites in #NorthernCalifornia. One was the #GrayLodgeWildlifeArea. The mountains in the background are the #SutterButtes, often called the world's smallest mountain range. These eroded volcanic lava domes are almost completely privately owned.

Wasp (Prionyx thomae) on sedum. The wasp's stinger is not barbed like that of a bee, so it does not break off in its victim, and the female can inflict multiple painful venomous stings. The male, however, lacks a stinger entirely.
