It's obvious to me in hindsight, but I'll readily admit I was slow on the uptake at the time.

I was Bernie-curious in the 2016 primary, initially, but once he started butting heads with black activists I realized it was not going to go well for him. He completely misread the moment.

Just wooing Black voters would have been enough, but his "class, not race" pitch didn't resonate with them. Go figure.

The other thing I learned, I think from Charlie Stross's blog, is that cover art is there to tell browsers the genre of the book. Fantasy books look one way, sci fi looks another way, romance novels look yet another way, etc.

Something I learned from watching Dana's experiences with publishing is that cover art has trends, and eventually it has to be redone so it doesn't look dated on the shelf.

This is reminding me of the early days of Twitch, when their chat system was IRC with a web client over it. You could tell, the veneer was paper-thin.

Been saying this for a while. The single biggest problem when you're building a data center is extracting the heat.

It's actually been discussed before. At one point there was talk of building a data center in Norway above the arctic circle, but there are other considerations and I don't think it panned out.

The amount of surface area needed to radiate all the heat from a data center is going to be massive, though.

I think my #1 feature request would be the ability to mute reposts by a person, but still see their original posts. Twitter had it and it was handy for reducing clutter. I think bluesky's culture of people reposting their own thread replies makes this extra important.
