40 years apart... The same winning feeling against New York.

The 10-1 win by Toronto over New York today matches the biggest postseason win by run differential in Blue Jays history. At Texas, Toronto defeated the Rangers on 2016-10-06 also by a 10-1 score, also in Game 1 of the ALDS.

1946-10-04: Delorimier Stadium hosts Game 6 of the Little World Series between host IL champion Montreal Royals and visiting AA champion Louisville Colonels. Montreal leads 3 games to 2, looking to clinch. Jack Anderson of SABR Quebec describes the final night of Jackie Robinson in Montreal.

1926-09-28: Ozzie Van Brabant, b. Kingsville, ON. Pitched 11 MLB games in 1954-5 for Philadelphia/K.C. A's, with an 0-2 record, 7.85 ERA in 28.2 IP. Also pitched for AAA Ottawa before call-up. In final career game, he and C Eric MacKenzie (Glendon, AB) formed 1st-ever all-Canadian battery.

1992-09-27: Gary Carter returns to where it all began in his Hall of Fame career: Montreal. The 11-time All-Star catcher drives in the game's only run with a 7th inning double, leaving to a standing ovation and curtain call in his final career game. Read all about it: sabr.org/gamesproj/ga...

1986-09-19: Starting for AL East-leading Boston at Exhibition Stadium in Toronto, the legendary Tom Seaver, 41, leaves after 4 IP due to a pulled calf muscle. The Blue Jays win 6-4. It was Seaver's last career appearance. He retired with 3640 strikeouts, the 3rd-highest career total at the time.

Congratulations to Rob Thomson (Sarnia/Corunna, ON). The Philadelphia manager is the 9th man to guide his club to the postseason in each of his 1st 4 seasons with the team. "Topper" tops all Phillies managers in career win % (.580). At 588 reg. season games managed: Thomson 344 wins, Manuel 330.

1946-09-04: International League pennant-winning Montreal (96-51), tunes up for the Governors' Cup playoffs, splitting a doubleheader with Rochester. Royals win the opener 8-7; lose the nightcap 5-3. Playing third base, Jackie Robinson goes 2-for-7 with 2 SB on the day, giving him 40 for the season.

2004-08-25: LHP Jeff Francis (Vancouver, BC) makes his MLB debut. In Atlanta, Francis pitches into the 6th inning, striking out 8. However, he gives up 6 runs and 3 home runs as Colorado falls 8-1. Three years later, Francis would lead Colorado to its 1st NL pennant.

1969-08-24: Canadian Prime Minister & Nobel Peace prize winner Lester Pearson looks on at Parc Jarry as expansion Montreal hosts San Francisco. Pearson played for Guelph in the @ibl1919.bsky.social
