New Year's Eve, just before the 9pm fireworks started, Grey-headed Flying Foxes crossed the Lake Burley Griffin in Canberra to go to their roosts in the trees.

This striking bat, the Grey-headed Flying-fox (Pteropus poliocephalus), is found only in Australia. They're also critical pollinators & seed dispersers for over 100 native tree & plant species!

Yes we have grey shrikethrushes, they have a lovely song, and they return to the same nest every spring. Though I can't tell if it's the same pair. You can hear them on the Merlin app, but you have to search for gray, not grey.

The head of the rainbow lorikeet is deep blue with a greenish-yellow nuchal collar, and the rest of the upper parts (wings, back and tail) are green. The chest is orange/yellow. The belly is deep blue, and the thighs and rump are green. The flower spike is a lime green colour. In the distance the sea can be just made out.

Copied my files to Documents and Pictures. Then found that Windows had dragged them onto the OneNote that I have never used or wanted to use. Spent the next 3 hours figuring out what happened and undoing it so hopefully it will not happen again.

I just got a new laptop with Windows 11. During setup there is a screen to log into your Microsoft account. No way to bypass it or opt out. So I logged into my account (which I have from registering MS Office 2019).
